Pieter Coecke had traveled in Turkey and Italy and Bruegel's art can be observed to have connections to Coecke's. Bruegel settled in Antwerp early on and stayed there as a resident for a while. In 1563 Bruegel married Coecke's daughter Mayken and Bruegel learned various art styles from Coecke and his family. Like Maria Verhulst, Coecke's wife's art style of watercoluor.

He settled in Rome for a little in 1553 and worked with Giulio Clovio. Giulo was massively invluenced by Michelangelo.

As he was traveling he observed the beautiful landscapes of Europe and illustrated them on his paintings. He rarely made the paintings on the spot, but rather when he returned home he would get to work.
