Taking notes helps me a lot in processing difficult or complicated topics. It also helps me when there are examples of the topic at hand and how it applies to real-life situations.

Long discussions tend to make my mind wander. I try to combat this by making my notes more detailed, or research about certain things mentioned in the lecture to further understand whatever I'm doing.
