A man named John Brown brought a small army of 18 men down to Harper's Ferry, they would steal many weapons and slaves to free them and fight against slavery. They were successful, although they were soon after killed off by reinforcements in an old engine house or enslaved and eventually executed.

The democrats split apart because of slavery, there was Northern Democrats and the Southern Democrats. Both parties would decide whether slavery should be accepted throughout our borders, or if they should not. Abraham Lincoln was elected as president and the nation did not receive this well as Lincoln wanted to completely abolish slavery through the states. Lincoln would also end the divide between the states as it would have just continued.

Fort Sumter off the Coast of South Carolina - April 12/14, 1861

The battle at Fort Sumter was one of the first battles of the Civil War, with the Union defending inside the fort while being surrounded by southern forces. The South won the battle completely ruining the fort and forcing the enemy to surrender. After the fight the North would side with Lincoln giving Lincoln people willing to fight for him.

Nat Turner's Rebellion in jerusalem Virginia - August 21st - 23rd 1831

Nat Turner's Rebellion was caused by slavery while Nat Turner also believed that he received sign from God that he would have to rebel. He would roam house to house recruiting people and after killing about 60 white men he would hide for 6 weeks and then be hanged.

The Underground Railroad taking place across Ohio, Indiana and Iowa - 1810/1850

The Underground Railroad was formed to help slaves escape safely, many slaves that escaped would help other slaves. Many white people also would help slaves. Some well known members of the Underground Railroad were Issaic Hopper, Levi Coffin, and Harriet Tubman.

Fugitive Slave Act across the United States - 1850/1864

The Fugitive slave Act took place because of it being a compromise to California becoming a free state. This was a large topic to be debated because of the difference between slave states and free states. Many slaves would try to escape a slave state to attempt to move to a free state.
