During the first week of school, we went to the Holland BPW to experience some interactive STEM activities. Students got a tour of the facility and had an hour to play around at various stations to learn about the science behind electricity.

Hopes, Fears, and Norms

It was important for us to 'air' our hopes and fears with a group project. There were a lot of hopes for 'good grades' and fears of 'doing all the work'. We set great norms to ensure that all voices were heard and work was going to be divided up amongst team members.

We wanted to add the things we value most in our lives to our community board (top 3). This was a lot more challenging than most people originally anticipated it would be.

Creative DNA/Learner Profile

We did a 16personalities.com assessment in class and grouped by the type of group member we are. Each student then wrote Traditionalist, Experiencer, Conceptualizer, or Idealist on a sticker and add it to our community board.

Community Connections Board

Our class took all of our observation protocols and added them to a community bulletin board with our polaroid pictures. This helps us get to know each other as learners/group members better, but also helped with grouping people with varying skills and abilities.

Elaine Stiefel, director of instructional technology for WO created a video as part of our launch by introducing CS/STEM night to the students. This is the event that students would be creating interactive experiences for!

We needed to generate some ideas of what some interactive experiences might look like for the STEM night, but we were stuck. We worked with our groups to do Rip, Slap, Pass to come up with questions about what information we still needed before we could move on!

Need to Knows/Top 10 List

As a group, we came up with our Top 10 list of questions we still needed answers to. Students were given access to the document to be able to add any additional questions that popped up. The questions were sent on to various experts to answer for us!

Critical Friends Day!

Once we had our ideas 'mapped out' with our groups, it was time to practice pitching them out to adult experts from the ISD. We had a few guests come in to help us expand our thinking and put some finishing touches on our ideas!

Authentic Audience + Feedback/Revision

We had the opportunity to do a "practice" run-through with the elementary students from Great Lakes Elementary during our class time. The elementary students gave us feedback to help us improve our experience/displays before the STEM night the following Monday night. We had 2 class periods to revise our thinking, if needed.
