racism is holding biased or unfair views about others due to their nationalities or ethnically different people and treating them as inferior.some examples of racism that has happened in the past due to society is slavery, Nazi belief in Aryan this is when Hitler believed the ideal person has blonde hair blue eyes and the apartheid in south Africa. some examples of racism in sport is when black people were denied access within boxing and there were a limited variety of activities for black people to take part in. however in the present time boxing is now known to be more of a mix raced sport as there is both black and white boxers. a lot of racism in sport is due to stereotypes given to people. one of the stereotypes were that black people cant swim. there was many reasons that was the reason for this, one of these was that their bones were heavier then a white persons bones. due to all of the stereotypes a lot of black person started to believe this and decided that they cannot swim. also another reason that there isn't many black athletes is that there wasn't any role models for them to look up to when they was younger. this could have been due to discrimination in the past.

case study- Raheem Sterling 2018

in 2018 Chelsea fans allegedly made racist remarks as sterling went to take a throw in during his football game. sterling later said that the media fuel racism by the ways in which they portray young black footballers. in my opinion the media creates a cover so that people 'feel more free' and 'protected' to say things. this is because they may feel like the media covers their face as it is written in black and white and not face-to-face. in my opinion in a game situation people say racist things as a last resort as it is clear to see that the participant is from a different race. for example if the performer was ginger would the fans say something about them being ginger? if they was a female...would that be said? in my opinion the media does fuel racism as within the game if a racist statement has been said the media will focuses more on that then the actual game? this could be a good thing however as it shows people that racism is still happening within sport.

there is a lot of racism within sport due to this day such as John Barnes in 1988, this is when Everton fans threw bananas at Barnes during a Merseyside derby. this is when Barnes stated that racism wont be tackled within sport until its tackled in society. also in 2018 inter fans repeatedly made monkey chants at Kalidou Koulibaly who reported the racist abuse to the referee. his manager later said that its the sport that has to do more to combat racism.

in south wales a 16 year old boy assaulted a former rugby player Gareth Thomas due to homophobia. Gareth game out gay in 2009. the police said they can confirm that the 16 year old boy was dealt with by way of restorative justice. restorative justice is a system of criminal justice which will focus on rehab for offenders. this could be a good resort as the offender will have to learn about how others feel and the differences in people. some people may say that he shouldn't have been dealt like this as their isn't really a punishment therefore some offenders may think they have got away with what they have done. some others may say he should have been arrested as a prison sentence may change a persons perception of the persons view on a lifestyle. however it could also make homophobia worse due to not learning about peoples differences.
