On June 29, 2018 Doug Ford became Premier of Ontario. Once he became premier there was lot of laws he wanted to change and a big one being the cut of OSAP funds, which is now becoming a highly big event people are talking about. The wants to cut $600 million in student grands and $440 million in funding cuts for colleges and universities which is causing a huge disagreement and students like myself are not happy about it.

Students at University of Windsor are not happy about Doug Fords plan to cut OSAP funds. In this youtube video there's a group of University students Chanting “Education is a right! We will not give up the fight!” approximately 60 people gathered outside the CAW Student Centre. A lot of students are angry about this change because it can be very hard to save up for school and if it wasn't for OSAP a lot of people would be in 10X the more debt than they already are. One student stated that if it wasn't for OSAP she wouldn't know how she would of paid for law school, she's already $40,000 in debt but without OSAP it would of been more.

Deb Matthews took to twitter to express her thoughts on the way she felt about Doug Ford and the changes he wants to make to OSAP. Deb Matthews is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. She was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2003 to 2018. Deb Matthews was very upset about what Doug Ford wants to do to OSAP and disagrees with him. She used the hashtag '#SaveOSAP' and explained how "Either they do not understand what they have done to #OSAP, or they are outright lying". I agree to what Deb is saying because I don't see anything positive with the new affects taking place with OSAP and agree they need to save OSAP and help the students.

On instagram, there's a hashtag going around called #SaveOSAP and a wide group of people all ages are standing around outside by Queens Park Chanting, with their custom made posters to stop what Doug Ford has planned for OSAP. I personally like what these people are doing and think this is a good way to out words across the Doug Ford and hopefully doesn't go through with it because OSAP has helped me a lot financially with getting into college and also helped thousands of other students just like me and education is an investment for the future so our money is going in the right place.

This is an article about high school students and how they are taking action into what Doug Ford has planned. A lot of different high schools across Ontario decided to take act and have a walkout during classes to get there word across to Mr. Ford too. A lot of high schools and elementary schools have been inspired by the colleges and universities and wanted to take part too. A new movement among Ontario high school and elementary students has started called #StudentsSayNo. Their first post on Instagram was just two days ago on Tuesday, March 19, and since then the movement has definitely gained attention.

Cuts OSAP to provide $10 Million for horse back riding programs

On March 23rd, 2019 Carlo Cappello tweeted on twitter all of the things Doug wants to cut or get rid of which included OSAP funding/Grants, Free Healthcare cuts, Tax on the wealthy cut, miniwage cut, Autism programs cut, School repairs cut, etc. But now were hearing that Ontario fundings is going to supporting horse back riding programs. I personally disagree with this because he's cutting things that's going to benefit us as a community in the future. Horse back riding programs will not and judging by Carlo Cappello tweet which got 64 retweets and 68 favourites, there are a lot of other people who agree with how I feel about these changes.

This local news video shows students terrified of not being able to finish school because of OSAP cuts. Some people are in universities and doing there masters and all they want is to be able to finish so they can graduate, working your way up all the way to masters just to hear you can't finish because the premier no longer wants to fund OSAP is not far what so ever, especially because were the ones paying for it out of our taxes. School is not cheap and especially is they are attending university. If you're an international under-graduate student you're looking at $25,000 -29,000 a year and if you're an under-graduate student you're looking at 7,000 - 12,000 a year.

Marie-France Lalonde who is a Franco-Ontarian politician in Ontario, Canada. She is a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario who was first elected in 2014. She took to tweet On January 25th, 2019 to talk about what Doug is doing to OSAP. She talked about how everyone should have the chance to be able to get the education they want, without being in an unbelievable amount of debt. In one of the three pictures she posted along with the tweet is a woman holding a poster she made saying "Education shouldn't be a debt sentence". There's a lot of people who are already in Debt and stress about universities and colleges funds and with the upcoming plans for OSAP it's only going to get worst and there's going to be a huge increase on students dropping out.

In this article I found on CBC, They talk about how university and college students are happy to hear the 10 percent cut to OSAP, university undergraduates will save between $600 and $1,000 as a result of the tuition cuts and college student will save $340 per year, but they are scared about what might happen to the loans and grants changes they want to make in September. In one of the videos attached to the article a girl student talks about how she's happy she's going to be finish this year because if she didn't she wouldn't of been able to finish her degree. imagine putting in all that hard work and dedication plus money just for you to not be able to finish university.

For the new changes Doug Ford wants to make to OSAP with getting rid of grants and cutting the funds. This leaves a lot of people in distressed and angry because if people come from a not so wealthy family, they end up having to pay for it all by themselves like myself and I can tell you its stressful because when you're full time in school there's only a minimum hours you can work a week plus having to pay for other expensive like rent, car payments, children, etc. it's hard to save up for OSAP and pay off your debt also because Doug wants to get rid of the 6 month grace period so as soon as you're done school they want you to pay back OSAP.

There's a lot of changes going on with what Doug wants to do with OSAP and one of them being the 6 month grace period. He now wants to charge interest during the six-month grace period for returning loans after students graduate. There's a lot of disagreement with this because the grace period gave students time to work full time now that they have graduated to save up and pay off their tuition debt. With the grace period being gone and charging students interest as soon as they finish school, this can be very hard on the students and will result in more and more people being in debt in the future. Education is to better the future, with all the new OSAP changes taking into place there's going to be fewer and fewer people wanting to go to school.
