I like to give students a mix of writing assignments: some for fun, some for academic reasons. I want to make sure students have choice so that they will be more motivated to write. I grade mostly for higher order concerns rather than worrying too much about lower order issues at first. I would like an online writing program that helps with lower order writing issues so that my students and I can focus on things like organization and ideas rather than grammar and spelling.

I assign writing as parts to a whole. In the beginning of the year, I have them really focus on certain areas, i.e., introduction, transition words, and their conclusion (that way it makes it easier on me to grade). We progress through the year focusing on different areas of the essay and then at the end of the year they have a well-written essay (well, in theory anyway). I would love to have a writing program that helps me grade it, in order to give the students feedback in a timely manner
