         <description><![CDATA[<div>	Cell lines are populations of cells from multicellular organisms that have had a mutation that causes them to divide indefinitely, despite their normal cellular instructions telling them to stop. This allows for the cell cultures to be grown continuously in test tubes and used in experiments whenever necessary. These ever-dividing cells can come into existence naturally due to a mutation in their genetic code causing cancer or can be intentionally induced for the sake of creating a test cell line for scientific research. The utilization of immortalized cell line technology can be very useful for the advancement of cellular biology and biochemistry in multi-celled organisms. The most famous immortal cell line are HeLa cells. This cell line originated from cancerous cells taken from hospital patient Henrietta Lacks who had cervical cancer. The cells were taken from her after she died without her permission or knowledge. Although the method by which the cells were acquired may have been controversial, the benefit to medicine has been huge. It was used in the creation of the polio vaccine and is still currently being used in research for things like AIDS and cancer research, discovery of new information regarding the effects toxic material and radiation, and gene mapping. One of the main questions about this technology is whether or not these cells can be used to reach immortality. Scientists wonder if the immortal, replicating cells can replace old cells in humans when they stop working or begin to work less efficiently to increase health of the body again. However, as advantageous these cells can be in humans, they have their limitations. The cells’ immortality came at the cost of experiencing many mutations which may alter the structure of some internal cellular structures, causing the cell to be unfit to cooperate with the rest of the body.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Immortal cell lines can actually be created through a few methods. The first and easiest method would be to simply isolate a cancerous group of cells. Another method is spontaneous or random induced mutagenesis. A viral gene can also be inserted into a cell that causes the endless division by interfering with the cell's natural rate of division. Alternatively, an artificial expression of certain proteins ceases the destruction of chromosomes. Lastly, certain antibodies can be fused with cells to create immortal hybrid cell lines.</div>]]></description>
