    대한민국에만 존재하는 과목이다. 외국의 경우엔 자국의 지리를 중점적으로 배우는 교과가 있기 보다는 지리학개론과 비슷한 형식으로 지구과학과 세계지리가 합쳐져 있는 느낌인 경우가 많다
