1954 Brown VS Board

This law was the beginning of putting a stop to the segregation that was in schools all throughout America. This law also brought the attention to the segregation and the fact that white students were receiving a better education overall. Although the supreme court ruled that segregation schools are unconstitutional, the case ruling was very vague and did not put a full stop to schools being segregated. However some school districts stopped segregated schools and it brought awareness.

1962 Engel VS Vitale

This case brought awareness to practicing religion in public schools. A parent sued the school because of the first amendment "the separation of church and state." This law passed and caused great change and building blocks to the practices in public schools and also the separation from private to public schools.

1975 Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act

In 1975 the U.S legislature signed a bill that made sure there was funding provided to federal and public schools that would help offer services and support to individuals with disabilities. The Act focused on improving access to a range of services, including healthcare, education, vocational training, housing, and community support, to enhance the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. It also focused on helping students integrated into their communities and help with inclusion.

1982 Board of education VS Rowley

This Act was formerly known as the Elementary and Secondary educational Act of 1965. ESSA gives more control over education policy to the states, granting them greater flexibility in setting academic standards, designing assessments, and developing accountability systems.ESSA requires states to identify and support low-performing schools, but it gives them more flexibility in how they intervene. States are encouraged to implement evidence-based strategies and interventions to improve struggling schools. The law makes sure that it is serving well-rounded students and all is equal to all.
