MMA has an intervention for students who have a D or F in one of their four core classes.
4. Resiliency Project for Sophomores, Junior US History research paper.

1) I am most proud of DECA and the Business Pathways! DECA has grown a lot in the last ten years, and has become an integral part on campus. Both as a co-curricular (CTSO) and as a part of instruction (being integrated in the Business pathways and CTE courses). We have achieved feats we never thought possible, including winning two International Titles and electing four state officers! The fact we have garnered support from the Mayor Lily Mei, Councilwoman Teresa Keng, Councilwoman Teresa Cox and Councilwoman Jenny Kassen is all the more amazing!
2) I think we can improve on more implementation of technology on our campus. With so many amazing resources out there with SMART boards and advanced calculators we can engage and dazzle our students with so much more! (if we have the funding)
3) Math has the Math Center that provides a lot of extra help. Business allows flexibility for students to reach certifications
4) Math has common benchmark assessments and departments collaborate on formative assessments. Business also provide common certifications and the teachers collaborate on curriculm.

1. I am most proud how we have continued to expand the way in which we collaborate within subjects and across subjects. Washington has made many advances in how students are learning more than just academics but also real world applications. Washington's CTE, Business, AVID and other special programs make a conscious effort to create both academic and real world connections through standardized teaching, project based learning, collaborating with core departments, and service learning.
2. Teaching and learning model continuous improvement. There are always areas of growth. A noted area of growth would be our ability to record, disaggregate, and analyze data in a way that the data shows more than just score performance; a way to show the whole student through a data lens. And then using this data to help shape instruction strategies. We also need to ensure teachers and stakeholders understand that data is more than just numbers collected to fulfill a task, but that we use the data to draw conclusions and to help plan better ways of meeting student needs.
3. Business/CTE/AVID offer a multitude of interventions from customary 504 and IEP interventions to project and assignment modifications. Most all classes are project based to incorporate real world learning.
4. Common practices - industry certification alignment - project alignment - DECA membership and projects - Perkins V alignment.

WASC Report Summary C - If possible your responses should be more personal and reflective of your role as a Husky.

Areas of Strength:
● Washington continues to focus on embracing diversity both inside and outside the
classroom. Staff and student committees have been formed to provide resources to all
with the intent of providing the Husky population with information and education in
human demographics including acceptable and unacceptable approaches within a
widely diverse society.
● Washington, as a collective staff, continues to expand its collaborative efforts in
planning, instruction, and assessment. Many departments collaborate within themselves
and with other departments in creating student projects in an effort to make learning
‘real’. This allows students to apply learned information to life beyond high school
● Many strategies were being implemented and utilized prior to COVID and continued
virtually. These enhanced strategies have continued back into live instruction.
Washington’s approach and acceptance of using these strategies illustrates open
mindedness on behalf of staff to improving technological resources and trying new
approaches to educating our students.
● Washington, at the direction of the district, continues to implement new and improved
technological resources to allow for better communication between all stakeholders.
Assignments, grades, email, and other communicative channels are used by all faculty.

Areas of Growth:
● Washington has created student and faculty driven groups to address student and family
perceptions of the Washington school community. The need to continue to grow and
apply learned information is noted and a continuous improvement process.
● Washington will continue to cultivate connections within the community and industry to
create ‘live’ class projects that allow students to apply learned material in real world
situations. Washington recognizes that success is not only gauged through standardized
assessment, but even more so in how students are able to apply learned knowledge and
skills as they grow and advance beyond high school.
● Washington has been able to document and facilitate intra-curricular and
cross-curricular projects. This development and implementation is ongoing.
● There is a need to develop an ongoing staff development plan in technology and
technological resources. Virtual learning highlighted this need and it is being addressed
at both the site and district levels.

1. I am most proud of the efforts that we are attempting to put forward to try and allow for equitable and more rigorous assessment across departments and campus. There has been an effort put forward in the last few years for there to be more common assessments, whether informal or formal, as well as data analysis to see how to better serve students on campus.

2. I think the next step for our category of assessment and accountability is the follow through piece. I think there has be a strong start of similar assessments created, but the back end of looking at the results and making decisions regarding grading, accessibility, and reteaching continues to be an area of growth.

3. SPED offers many different opportunities for reteaching, slower pace, one on one opportunies for learning, retaking, and small group learning in order to improve student's ability to reach content standards. For my role as a Resource teacher specifically, it's a lot of communication between myself and the general education teachers to see what they student needs to be working on and how I can reteach that information in my classroom.

4. Our department is unique in that we have subdepartments within it. The resource team in general has a general outline provided to us from the district in relation to overall expectations for our students, and we have not yet created a shared expectation for all the classes on campus regarding student access and success.

It has also given me the opportunity to work with small groups of students regularly.
2. Because of a change in core novels in ELA, working with other grade-level teachers to develop compelling curriculum for the new novels.
3. In ELD, using standards-based grading and allowing students time to retake and improve their English skills has been important for all ELD teachers. We have been working on correctly placing students and developing supports if students are struggling. Also, connecting students with counseling and finding opportunities for them to work in small groups with each other and teachers has been important this year.
4. In ELD, we give common assessments to ELD 1, 2, and 3 students to check their understanding and create a baseline at each level. We have developed ELPAC practice to support students in their language testing.

Focus group B: Most proud of achieving shared standards and approaches and applying interventions for math students. Re-takes and other interventions have improved student morale around their math experiences. Allowing for credit recovery, applying rigorous standards fairly, and using interventions consciously has improved student morale around math and testing. It has also promoted a growth mindset, which allows for errors, and the ability to learn from errors and improve understanding. Feelings of defeat and hopelessness have decreased dramatically with these interventions, standards and approaches. ---Mr. Hess

I think we are providing a rich CTE experience within the academy as well as building a solid and supportive community over the course of the 3 years of the program. The Arts, Media and Entertainment sector is one of the fastest growing employment sectors in California, and the academy provides an entryway into careers in that sector.
2. I think we need to do a better job of getting the word out about the art academy.
3. the MMAA is currently offering a weekly flex time intervention for 10th grade students with low grades in any of their classes (either MMAA classes on non academy classes)
4) Each year the Fine Arts department chooses common standards and assessment practices to focus on for the year

1. In Category E, I would have to say that I am most proud of how WHS handles students of concern. We have a great flow chart that starts students off with a COST referral, and that referral really allows teachers to identify students of concern no matter the concern or amount of contact/communication we've have with the student about that particular issue. I have been able to identify a number of students over the years that have turned out to have thoughts of suicide, showed self-harm, and even students that needed to be reclassified from GenEd to SPED for one reason or another.
2. I would say that we could really make a focus on adding to the professionalism of our students within our classrooms. Taking pride in doing good work and handling yourself in a appropriate and professional manner shouldn't be mocked or thought of as uncool, it should give a sense of pride. We could really stand to build a culture where all staff members encourage and reward professional attitudes and acts of professionalism on part of our students. This would also aid in the classroom management issues we so often struggle with.
3. We offer FlexTime and after school tutoring for students. We also offer test corrections and project makeups so that students can sit down with approved tutors to better understand where they went wrong and correct their work and lift their grade.
4. As a department, we have created and shared similar/common projects and exercises over the years. We offer test retakes and a comprehensive tutoring program organized by level (1-4). We make sure to refer to activities and terminology that other teachers use to refer to topics so that students who've experienced those teachers can best locate themselves within a certain topic/concept to best understand it.

We have prepared lessons during Husky period, we have introduced community building circles throughout campus, and the quarterly EI award to "catch" students who demonstrate high EI or who have built up their EI through the year!
2. Community building still needs to be strengthened. Coming from a distance learning year our students are still carrying trauma and some have a resistance to building connections with peers and adults.
3. FLEXtime offerings/help, the fine arts department has a very generous late policy with no deductions to help students prioritize without being penalized, and the arts create a welcoming, safe space to build adult/student communication which is used to scaffold Emotional Intelligence.
4. The fine arts department aligns curriculum within similar subjects (ex. Art 1), we have chosen the same national standards to focus on each year within the entire department, and we are currently working on aligning all of our grading/late work/ re testing guidelines to ensure a fair yet rigorous arts experience throughout the school.

Also proud of the EI committee, and educating students on the 5 components of EI, and the Monday lessons that allows them to reflect on times in their lives when they have demonstrated the components.

2.

1. Embedding “office hours” into the school day is a move that acknowledges and alleviates any equity issues regarding student (and staff) scheduling. Often times, students have a multitude of obligations that exist outside of the school day that range from extracurricular, all the way to working to help with family finances. By incorporating office hours into the school day, we provide opportunities for students to engage with extra help, or with make up assignments that factor into the daily runnings of the day. 2. Regarding areas that need to be worked on, is certainly marketing and reaching to parents/guardians about the varying offerings we have on campus from tutoring to elective classes. Further to incorporate parents into varying activities ranging from fundraisers to participating in showcase/open house/back to school night. 3. Interventions for the English department range from flex offerings for reading plus/reading supports, writing center held after school, as well as ELPAC assessments for ELD students (from level 1 to being on the verge of reclassification) 4. I would be interested in having more mental health support due to the increased mental health emergencies I am seeing in the classroom on a daily basis.
3. The most important aspect of intervention strategies in health class is a one-to-one conversation and support regarding the topics that are discussed in class.
4. The writing assignments have been the most effective part in making sure every single student has the experience needed for all of the most important aspects of health education and well-being.

1) I'm most proud of how math and science departments each have a procedure for students to complete re-takes of exams. This allows students to demonstrate increased mastery of concepts, while enforcing rigor by requiring them to attend study sessions beforehand
2) We could improve on applying information about skill gaps to current learning. Testing may uncover common gaps, which teachers can then adjust lessons to address misunderstandings and similar shortfalls.
3) The Special Education department offers collaboration around students struggling across multiple classes. We offer each other support in reaching students during down time in each others' classes, and in pulling students into Flextime for content recovery.
4) The Special Education department has common expectations for student behavior. We often have Friday Quizzes, which are generally short and low-stakes. This allows for students to make up work in other classes, and/or have brief check-ins with their teachers and case managers.

There is 1x1 assistance, small group sizes, revisions of essays and retaking of test until material and content are mastered. Student have opportunities to improve their grades which boost self-esteem. 4. Our department has a general outline of student expectations that we follow.
