I think it was because all of them came on the night to drop off their supplies, and didn't feel like they needed to come back. The ones that did come just drifted in at random times, so it was a little difficult to give a formal presentation. Maybe next year we could have one night instead of the two. I think a lot of parents feel comfortable with how teachers communicate now by email, memos, texting, etc. and are not too worried about getting information in persona anymore. I think parents and students really enjoy seeing the classroom and dropping off supplies the night before. I would imagine it helps alleviate some stress coming back to school, plus parent can help carry bags of supplies in. I like having the back to school night for students to see the room and put supplies away. As for the open house night, I think most parents like getting information through written email, notes, etc. better than coming in. I think having students bring in their supplies help them know where to go, who their teacher is, and helps them carry less on the first day of school.
