The visit of a primary school today was great. The pupils were realy nice, willing to learn, highly motivated and curious. I especially enjoyed the music class, while the pupils could hardly wait to play the drum. The visit also encouraged me to consider the similarities and differences with a school system in Slovenia.

School visit was absolutely amazing! The headteacher and the teachers were very welcoming and open to share their working environment. Entering each classroom for me was like going back in time - the pupils greeted everyone respect and curiosity, asked us a lot of questions and wanted to hear our languages. For the pupils it was a big learning step - they all know about travelling and some of them have been travelling. But they have realised that it is easier to travel when you know the common language.

I could see in their eyes – the desire to learn <3

The kids we met today seemed so fascinated by playing drums. It is always a pleasure to satisfy their willingness to learn, to go from one part of the room to another, from a stage to another.

I have to admit that all my students do not show this happiness at school. Is it a question of age? Or the subject? Or the way the teacher is treating the subject and the students?

At all ages it is possible to use the way of learning that mostly is used for younger students – to experience, to feel and so on.

We visited to a primary school in Ville des Abymes. When we arrived, the pupils sang their anthem to us. The song sounded amazing. I like the idea of having their own anthem. So, it is a job for me to organize that our nursery will have its own anthem.
The pupils at the school were very calm and happy. It surprised me that they were so peaceful and quiet, especially when they were playing drums. I was expecting a very loud lesson. As they played the drums, their eyes glowed.
Tradition and culture are absolutely essential elements that must be included in kindergartens and schools programs.

During a visit to a primary school with a special music profile, we were able to experience music lessons today and watch the students being introduced to this instrument. In the foreground was the structure of the instrument, so that everyone knows in which area they have to beat. The practice was surprisingly quiet. Especially successful I felt the division into 5 students per instrument. While these, even in the waiting time with the help of Body Percussion, could play along, no boredom came up.
Particularly impressive was the enthusiasm of the children, which you could see that they were looking forward to the game on the "Gwo Kas" very much. In theory-term, it became clear, that many of them are already familiar with the instrument and are now being taken up in the classroom.

For me, I take it from today that music lessons do not have to be based on current trends, but that it can be very easy to get the students excited about traditional instruments and not to forget the playing style. Decisive is a high proportion of practice to let them experience the play on it. Another idea may be to pick up the traditional instruments of the different cultures in the classes and, if possible, bring them with them.
