For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore, for thy name's sake, lead me. and guide me. Psalm 31:3: This verse is a reminder to seek guidance and support during challenging times in our lives. Just as God is described as a rock and fortress, in which I can find strength and stability by putting my trust in God. When facing hard times, I can pray for a sense of direction in which God will lead me to the right course of track while helping me to stay focused and motivated.

DEFINE THE FOLLOWING:

SCIENCE - This involves mathematical solutions, experiments, observations, analysis, etc. It revolves to the study of different natural occurrence and the cycle of living and non-living things that surrounds us in this universe. It explains all kinds of possibilities that can be produce that explains how a certain thing can be made or how will it change in the near future.

TECHNOLOGY - This involves the advancement of humanity from a slow mechanism that requires effort to a modern mechanism that is faster and requires minimal effort to operate. It improves the quality of human life by studying faster ways to produce a certain thing by using less and less effort. It requires mathematical and scientific principles to produce a new product that could minimize human effort.

SOCIETY - This consists of group of human individuals that collaborate to work together and support one another. It is what binds the relationships, institutions and norms of the people together. It can evolve and change depending on the environment that they stand on.

What is the relationship between science, technology, and society? - The relationship between these three is that they needed each other to improve the quality of human life. For example, technology provides different ways to make hard tasks much more easier in which it helps the people in a society to do things faster than before. On the other hand, technology wouldn't be possible if there wasn't science to make it possible. In other words, these three are interconnected to each other and without one of them it wouldn't function properly.

If I were to create a law that supports science and technology, I want it to be called the "Future Forward Act." In which it will cover the lists below:

Increased in funding: A substantial amount of percentage would be committed to expanding the funds for the scientific research across different wide spectrum of bussinesses, from basic researches to applied technologies. I'd like to ensure that both experienced researchers and early-career scientists receive adequate assistance.
STEM education initiatives: Engage the future generation with provisions to support STEM education at all levels, from elementary school to college, would be included in the proposal. Consider the teachers support, the grants for special education programs, and the scholarships.
Incentives for Innovation: I generally would offer tax breaks and other incentives to businesses who spend money on R&D as well as to startups developing innovative technologies. I want to encourage risk-taking and inventiveness.
Simplified regulations: Let's be honest, regulations can impede advancement sometimes. So, In addition to making sure safety and ethical issues are taken into account, the rule would aim to streamline the regulatory process for emerging technology.
Encouraging Cooperation: Cooperating to one another is one of the most important thing and essential for science to thrive. In order to promote information sharing and expedite the development of ground-breaking technologies, this act would promote collaboration between government labs, industry, and academics.
In other words, I want the "Future Forward Act" to create an environment that encourages science and technology to thrive, boosting economic growth, improving people's lives, and addressing future issues.

Among the presidents of the Philippines, who do you think gave the biggest importance to science &technology during their term? Explain.

So if I were to pick one Philippine president who really understood the importance of science and technology back then, I'd say i would go for Fidel V. Ramos. Considering in the past that there are no advance technology back then, he seemed to know that S&T was a crucial part for the country's progress. A few things stand out to me. First was his "Philippines 2000" vision. It wasn't just some catchy slogan. What he saw there was S&T as the engine driving economic growth and global competitiveness. He wanted the Philippines to become a newly industrialized country, and he knew that if he doesn't do this, it wouldn't happen without serious advancements in technology. Second is the big push for IT, it was one of the huge contribution he made. He understood that there is a potential in the internet and computers to create jobs, attract foreign investment, and transform the economy. That focus on IT was really forward-thinking for the time. Lastly was the investments in training and developing S&T professionals were one of the most important key aspects he did. He knew that having talented scientists, engineers, and technicians was the most essential for sustained progress. Plus, encouraging partnerships between government, universities, and businesses helped to get those innovations out into the real world. So, when you go and add it all up together, it's very evident that Fidel V. Ramos made a huge contribution to science and technology and making it his principal emphasis during his period of presidency. He didn't only lecture in front of all the people and he manage to actually put policies and programs in place to back it all up.

There are numerous serious issues with science education in the Philippines that hinder students' development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific literacy skills. In his paper "Teaching Science in the Philippines: Why (and How) We Can Do Better," Rafael Ambag discusses several significant issues, such as outdated teaching methods, poor student performance on international exams, and inaccurate educational resources. This article clearly emphasizes the legitimate difficulties, but it often misses the deeper systemic problems like teacher competency and inefficient teaching approaches that is solely in favor of focusing on infrastructure challenges. Strengthening science education in the nation needs tackling these core concerns.

The lack of experience learning in scientific courses is one of the key difficulties that is brought up in this study. In the Philippines, scientific education are still mostly focused on remembering of the information rather than projects that apply what is taught to real-world settings. Rarely is lab technology utilized when it is available. What this means is that many children don't have many opportunity to practice their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students cannot fully understand and apply science concepts when they only study by passively taking notes. The post raises an important point, and studies have shown time and time again that inquiry-based learning improves student understanding and engagement. A lack of tools does make the problem worse, but it's not the only reason for it. Two other big problems that is needed to be fixed are the teachers who aren't properly trained and schools that don't want to use cheaper, more hands-on activities. Creative and effective ways to teach science can be used even when there aren't many tools available.

Another critical issue discussed in the article is the consistently poor performance of Filipino students in international assessments such as the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Reflecting major gaps in scientific education, the Philippines have been placed among the lowest in several worldwide surveys. Given these findings this revealed that many students struggle with core scientific ideas and reasoning. Moreover, the author appropriately emphasizes this as a serious issue. Furthermore, the government’s choice to withdraw from TIMSS after 2008 reflects a lack of commitment to examining and reforming the education system based on global norms. However, while we say that these worldwide assessments do provide some significant insights to us, they should not be the exclusive measure of scientific education quality, But rather should have a more comprehensive evaluation that examines students' capacity to apply their scientific knowledge in real-world circumstances, instead of concentrating solely on the results of standardized tests.

The article also addresses the problems of obsolete and error-filled textbooks, In which it may continue to be one of the major concern in the Philippine education. Moreover, many of the learning resources have factual errors, poor grammar, and out-of-date scientific knowledge, which makes it more challenging for pupils to lay a solid basis in science. This is a real worry, as the quality of textbooks directly affects learning outcomes. However, beyond the issue of textbook accuracy, a deeper problem lays in the over-reliance on textbooks as the primary source of learning. With the rapid progress of science and technology, teachers should be encouraged to use numerous sources, including digital and interactive materials, to keep pupils updated with current scientific information.

Although the article effectively identifies the major challenges in science education, it places too much focus on infrastructure problems, such as the lack of classrooms and laboratories. While these issues exist, they are not the primary reason for the poor state of science education in the Philippines. Well-trained and creative instructors may deliver excellent science instructions even if the settings are with limited resources. The effectiveness of instructional strategies is one of the main concern because, not only the accessibility of facilities but, more infrastructure by itself won't result in substantial advancements in science education until teacher preparation is improved and inquiry-based, more engaging teaching methods are adopted.

Another problem that the paper does not address is the impact of inadequate science education on children's career choices. Low tertiary enrollment in STEM-related courses is due to many students failing to see the importance of science in their future. Addressing this issue requires stronger career guidance programs, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to real-world scientific applications. Without these initiatives, improving basic science education may not translate into a stronger scientific workforce.

To address these difficulties, several solutions must be prioritized. First of all, teacher preparation programs should be upgraded to provide instructors or educators with the skills that are needed to give an engaging and effective science instruction. Investing in professional development and pedagogical trainings that ensures teachers are prepared to support hands-on learning, especially when it comes in resource-constrained settings. Second is that, the science curriculum must be revised to include current scientific advancements and practical applications. Regular modifications to educational materials, as well as the utilization of digital resources, will also enable students to have a better comprehend and make them appreciate science more. Third possibly the last is that, the Philippines should actively engage in international exams like TIMSS and PISA, which assess student growth and use data to encourage school changes. Finally, science education should be integrated into everyday life through national science fairs, community projects, and outreach programs that encourage students to apply scientific concepts outside of the classroom.

Ambag's paper can be one of the strong criticism of the current state of the science education in the Philippines, citing the major faults such as low textbook quality, a lack of hands-on learning, and poor international exam outcomes. However, the discussion could have gone much deeper by addressing the importance of teacher competency, career paths, and other educational techniques. Moreover, improving science education needs not only infrastructural development, but also systemic improvements in teaching methodology, curriculum content, and policy implementation. Without these measures, the country could be at risks falling farther behind in the international scientific competitiveness. Addressing these challenges is one of the most crucial part to creating a scientifically educated population capable of driving national progress and innovation.

Ambag, R.
