married daughter and threatens to disown Juliet if she does not marry Paris, which results in the

death of Romeo and Juliet. 

In Act 3 Scene 4, Lord Capulet receives word of the death of Tybalt, and he scrambles to make plans for Juliet. He explains to Paris, "Acquaint her here of my son Paris' love; And bid her, mark you me, on Wednesday next" (3.4.16-17). This quote shows Capulet's irrational and impetuous decision to have Juliet marry Paris, out of fear of having an unmarried daughter, due to the societal norms of the time. As a result, Capulet plans a hurried, spur-of-the-moment marriage that Juliet herself never agreed to, preventing Juliet from pursuing her true love. As a consequence, Capulet's actions create an indissoluble conflict between Juliet and Capulet, ultimately leading to Juliet physically harming herself due to the anguish he has caused.

In Act 3 Scene 5, Lord Capulet informs Juliet that the arranged marriage for Juliet and Paris will take place in 2 days. Juliet then shares that she refuses to marry anyone but Romeo, which prompts Lord Capulet to furiously shout, “An you be mine, I’ll give you to my friend. 

An you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets” (3.5.192-193). This quote shows how Capulet reacts to this unknown by berating and insulting his very own daughter, due to the societal pressure he is under to find his daughter a husband. Capulet has never experienced this feeling of disobedience and rejection, causing him to react impulsively and harshly.  

After the completion of the Northern Expedition, the alliance between the Nationalist Party of the KMT and the Communist Party of the CCP was short-lived. As Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek saw the rapid growth of the Communist Party and the threat of overtaking his party, it “intensified his determination to destroy the Communists, whom he regarded as the main obstacle to his exercising complete power” (Lynch 49). This quote shows that Chiang was under political and societal pressure as the rival party grew, causing him to act extremely. The quote also expresses Chiang’s fear of being overtaken by the Communists, leading to his unnecessarily rash actions in the Shanghai Massacre. The aftermath of this event left many people fleeing for their lives, showing the monumental impact the Shanghai Massacre had on its surroundings. 

The 100 flowers campaign prompted many intellectuals to speak out and criticize the CCP. However, Mao made a severe misjudgment by commencing this movement because “…he underestimated the volume and bitterness of the criticism, and the Party’s ability to withstand them.” This quote suggests how Mao confronted an unknown of overwhelmingly large amounts of censure from the public, mainly out of fear. He reacted to this unknown by intentionally purging the opposers, arresting them and sending many intellectuals into forced labor and re-education camps. This outrageous campaign shows Mao’s extreme rashness and impulsiveness when faced with societal pressure that threatens his political position. 

Limbaugh said at the start of his rant, “It looks like the coronavirus is being weaponized as yet another element to bring down Donald Trump” (Rush Limbaugh, Yahoo News). Limbaugh attempts to distribute false information due to the societal pressure brought by the concerned members of the public. This demonstrates how Limbaugh, a person with the power to persuade thousands of unknowledgeable people, reacted to an excessive and extreme degree by intentionally accusing China of weaponizing the coronavirus. This led to widespread discrimination of Asians across the country, resulting in physical violence and abuse, showing how his intentional actions caused severe consequences.
