Hello all! I am Liz Peregrine. I live in Lacrosse Wisconsin but I teach in Lansing Iowa. I teach 5-12 band in a very small school district so I get the students from their start to the end. This is my fourth year of teaching and I have stayed at the same school the whole time.

My use of technology is limited. I have started to encourage the students to do composition projects on noteflight and sometimes (maybe once a year) my middle school students will do a project on garageband. I use audacity to cut concert recordings. I have tried to incorporate google classroom but have found it difficult to use. For administrative uses I use remind, google drive and google calendar a lot! My school went 1:1 with 9-12 just last year so I am still learning what I can do to incorporate it into their learning. My middle school students are 1:1 (just this year)but they are not allowed to take their laptops home. This makes it difficult to do projects on the laptop because it must be completed in class time there is no option for the students to take them home. I hope as a result of this class I can find ways to incorporate use of technology in a way that flows with the curriculum and doesn’t disrupt it!

Attached is a photograph of my whole high school band! There are 27 students in the high school band this year, that may sound small but… It’s actually 25% of the student body!

Hey everyone! My name is Cindy Jennings. I live in Flowood, Mississippi and I teach 6-12 grade band. My concentration is in percussion, so I teach those sectionals. I am in charge of our 7th grade band as well as one of our 6th grade bands. This is my third year of teaching, and I am enjoying my grad courses so far! This program has given me many resources that have been helpful to me in our classroom. Speaking of our classroom, my coworkers and I use SmartMusic with our students. We assign them exercises, scales, and, if available, the concert music they are working on. SmartMusic is a great tool in all grades, but especially our middle school program. Our students and staff are all supplied with MacBooks, so we have access to most technology that is out there currently. I use Remind with my high school ensembles to keep in touch about rehearsals and/or changes. If my Dr. Beat metronome is not available or close by, I use Tonal Energy for tuning and metronome. Recently, we acquired a Yamaha Harmony Director keyboard in our middle school band room. We use one at the high school currently, so we are excited to use one at the middle school for transposition purposes and tuning. I am excited to learn more about technology in the music classroom! Attached here is a picture of our combined 6th grade band on stage for their first concert! Our newest coworker conducted them!

Hello, my name is Eric Putnam. I live near Sturbridge, Massachusetts. I taught music in a public school setting for a few years (grades 4-12 instrumental, middle school band, and high school marching band). After school funding issues around the national recession, I then moved into the hardware/software technology industry and now aviation as my full-time day job. I, however, remain very active in music performing in various ensembles, teaching percussion privately, and directing a community concert band. Besides using a metronome and tuning app on my phone, I haven't used technology in my lessons or rehearsals.

My most frequent use of technology is my use of email, Google Drive, and Google Calendar for administrative purposes, such as planning, sharing documents, tracking the budget, etc. For the community band, I regularly send YouTube links to the members to listen to the music that we are performing. I use Sibelius for composing or arranging. I've also used Audacity, but this was only for editing an existing audio file, and I'm not familiar with its full functionality.
I look forward to learning about technology to determine if I can effectively use it in my lessons or rehearsals.

Currently I teach 4k & 5th-7th grade music, two middle school choirs, two high school choirs, high school piano and guitar. I am also the drama director as well as one of the poms/dance coaches.

Our small school that graduates about 45 each year is slowly allowing me to use some technology. Currently I only use free services to teach such as Prezi for when I am presenting in general music. I do not have it in my budget to use the things I want such as Smart Music. My students have Chromebooks and use Google docs, sheets, and slides. I would use Google classroom but we as a school have found that a large majority of our students do not have internet access at home and struggle for consistent use at home.

I am excited for this class and I hope that I will be able to find some technology I can use right away with my students!

We are a small but mighty school. Here is my Principal doing his favorite afternoon activity. He loves to drop by HS guitar class and play guitar with my kids or just pick a corner of the room and play for awhile. I love that my room can be an escape for all :)

Hi there, everyone! My name is David Houck and I live in Lancaster, which is in South-Eastern Pennsylvania and I teach in the Hempfield School District, which is incidentally where I went to school from grades 2-12!

This is my sixth year teaching at Centerville Elementary School, where I teach general/classroom music for grades K-6 and direct the sixth-grade chorus. As of this year, I also teach one period of high school piano lab every other day.

I use technology in my classroom every single day. To give just a few examples, I use Doceri to connect my iPad to my laptop (which is connected to my projector) so I can walk around the room or hand my iPad off to a student and have them mark up what's on the board. I show YouTube videos all the time, and I use Spotify for background music, too. Our district has implemented the 1:1 initiative across all grades, so my students all have their own iPads, which allows us to use apps like GarageBand, PianoMaestro, iWriteMusic, Music Tutor, and others! As a younger teacher, these technologies and apps are second nature to me, and I love being able to share them with my students (and learn from the students who have become experts on their own)! This isn't the best example of iPad use in my classroom, but here's a student completing an assignment in Cabinet defining some of the trickier words in the "Star-Spangled Banner", which she'll submit through Schoology.

Hi everyone! My name is Beverly Jones and I live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. I currently teach 5-8 band and have a private oboe/clarinet studio. I have been teaching band for 30 years and have taught high school band, Fine Arts, various "enrichments" and have settled into middle school band. I play oboe in the community band, the MSU Faculty Woodwind Quintet and anytime someone needs an oboe around here.

I use technology mostly for administration purposes. Our campus uses RenWeb for everything (gradebook, attendance, communication, lesson plans). I use my own personal IPad for rehearsals and lessons (recording, metronome, tuner, YouTube etc.) and I have a white board in my classroom that I use some. My experience with technology that is used to help students learn musical concepts is limited and I am very excited to be taking this class. Most of the technology in my band hall is hand-me downs and it can be very frustrating. This class is going to push me way out of my comfort zone!

I am fortunate that the local university and I collaborate to teach the Jr. level woodwinds methods class. The attached picture is me with my 5th grade band and some of the McNeese WW Methods students.

Hi everyone! My name is Jessalyn Peterson, and I currently live in State College, Pennsylvania (where Penn State University is). I just graduated from Penn State in May of 2018, and am now a long term sub in the Hollidaysburg Area School District for elementary strings. My main instrument is flute, but I also play the cello and violin. I mainly focused on High School band while I was completing my undergraduate degree, so I am hoping to get a full time band position soon! During the fall, I was Assistant Band Director for the marching band where I student taught last spring, and absolutely loved it!

I’ve used technology in a lot of different ways so far. At my first student teaching placement, the high school was 1:1 with Chromebooks, so my co-op and I used google slides while teaching, and even had the students complete a project at the end of the marking period using google slides. Then at my second student teaching placement, the whole district (K-12) was 1:1 with iPad minis. My co-op used this mainly at the high school level, and had the students record scales and excerpts from the concert pieces for a grade, as well as writing assignments on the different composers we were currently teaching. Now while subbing, the 6th grade orchestra students have Chromebooks, and the teacher I’m subbing for has the students reviewing note reading on musictheory.net.

Attached is a picture of me teaching the high school concert band during student teaching :)

Saluda is a small rural community located about 30 miles outside of the capital of Columbia. Currently, I am the Director of Bands at Saluda High School but serve as my school only music teacher. Over the course of the total academic year I will direct/instruct the marching band, chorus, percussion ensemble, steel pan/Brazilian samba class, winterguard, & jazz band. Prior to teaching at Saluda, I received my Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Limestone College and served three years as the Assistant Director and Percussion Specialist at Boiling Springs High School. This is my fourth year teaching but my first year being the head director.

I use technology in my room a few different ways. I have a SmartBoard that displays Tonal Energy so individual students can check tuning and adjust themselves before we begin ensemble playing. My school issues chromebooks to every student and I love to post quizzes, lectures, PowerPoints, etc in Google Classroom. It is an easy way for me to not waste time in class to test, or even print study guides. Finally, I have students create their own musical compositions using MuseScore. They enjoy playing with this program and I love allowing them to apply information through there own create endeavors.

To be completely honest, I am not that great with technology in the classroom. I am looking forward to learning a few new tricks that I can apply in my classroom!

I just recently graduated from the University of North Florida in April 2018, where I received my Bachelors Degree in Music Performance with a concentration of music technology & production. I'm currently an elementary K-5 music teacher. This is my first year as a music teacher and i really enjoy it a lot.

I implement many elements of technology in my teaching. I use logic pro, finale, presentation slides, and google drive for communication. Although there are many more softwares, those are the most common ones. Since, i do not have a music classroom, i travel from classroom to classroom at the school. Each teacher has a smart board, which is greater for me because i am able to connect my computer using an HDMI cable cord to connect my laptop for instruction. Someday i'm hoping that i can have my own classroom but i am working with what i have for now.

I'm hoping to get a lot of knowledge, learning, material out of this class and be able to use some tools that would benefit my ability to be a stronger educator with technology. It was a Rock N' Roll theme, and I usually have some kind of costume/outfit for the finale. This costume was much more tame compared to others :)

My name is Keith Cute and I live in Cape Coral, Florida. This is my fifth year teaching as the middle school band and chorus director at Bonita Springs Charter School. I also teach beginner and intermediate guitar and piano classes on the weekends for a local church as well as private lessons.

My use of technology in the past has been somewhat limited. I have a smartboard in my class and try to use it for various activities in my class. For some lessons I will use my document camera to project scores and parts on the smartboard to study and review as a class. For other classes I make use of online resources to find music based learning games that I usually use in beginner classes to review for quizzes or bigger exams. I have also tried using Finale in my classes to create sight reading examples in real time with students coming up to board to add or change notes or rhythms in the example.

This year our school has also attempted to make technology a bigger presence in our classes by giving all of our students ipads. It's been a bit of challenge for me personally to come up with new and creative ways to utilize these in all of my classes so I am hoping that this course will help give me a better idea of how I can really make good use of these devices this year.

Hi all, my name is Megan Webster and I live in Bremerton, Washington (a suburb of Seattle across the water). I currently teach HS Band and Guitar at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, WA. This is my first year there and I previously taught 5th grade orchestra at several elementary schools in a nearby district for 4 years. I haven't used a ton of technology thus far in my teaching career but have been exposed to several ideas at trainings, including Padlet. At my previous position I used musictheory.net to test note identification and Screencastify for students to make videos of playing tests. I've used Sibelius for rewriting parts but otherwise have not explored technology a whole lot yet with my students. Here's a picture of the region that I live in. I look forward to working with you all this quarter!
