According to what I learn, the British Empire (1407-1997) was recognized as the most powerful empire in human history, and was also the largest force on the earth during more than one century. At the peak of its expansion, by 1913, the British Empire held sway over 412 million people, occupied  23% of the world population at the time and held 35,500,000 square kilometers of land in 1920, occupied 24% of the entire land area of the world. It has nearly the same surface area as the Moon. (The surface area of the Moon is 38,000,000 square kilometers).
