Viola Desmond dragged out of the Nova Scotia Movie Theatre
Viola Desmond (a Canadian civil rights activist and businesswoman) was a victim of racial discrimination when she was "dragged" out of a movie theatre in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. This event occurred as Viola Desmond refused to leave a white-only part of the Roseland Movie Theatre. She was convicted with tax violation as the seat she was sitting in was 1 cent higher than the one she payed for. Viola Desmond's story is important and significant to Canadian history as she opposed segregation in Canada and stood up for what's right. The Change and Continuity in this event is that black people are allowed to sit in whatever place they want if they paid for it just like other people but what stayed the same is the judgmental concerns and looks from other people but which we can ignore or take a stand to. When talking about Cause and Consequence, Viola Desmond was getting kicked out because of racial segregation and that's what caused this whole altercation. The consequence the government got was the fight she gave for equality and that resulted in racial discrimination to be demolished and her to be praised to this day.

This event is important as it states how discrimination against black Canadians stood very clear and the Canadian laws and regulations were ineffective. The racial discrimination act had no response.

Hate Crimes in Amherstburg
In 1965, Amherstburg, Ontario racial acts rose as a black baptist church was completely defaced and vandalized. The Amherstburg town sign was also spray painted. This sad occurrence is important in Canadian history and shows historical significance as it shows how vandalism and hate crimes towards the black community really was prominent and no actions were made. When talking about Cause and Consequence, this hate crime was caused because of the stereotypes and racial discrimination against black communities and the consequence fo their action was for everyone to be treated equally today.

Pierre Trudeau's Introduction to Canada's Multicultural Policy
Multiculturalism Canada was in the process of construction as the Royal Commision on Bilingualism and Biculturalism. Problems concerning the ethnic reality were sort of resolved in 1971 by Pierre Trudeau who was also the prime minister of Canada. This invited more black canadians to be open in the society and to be welcome. They were starting to fit in. This shows historical significance relating black Canadians as Canada was barely recognizing other ethnic groups so that mindset could change and the changes that occured because of the multicultural policy is big and has affected many people.

The media portrayed the incident as "America-style violence" of the young black man but the riot was ideal to prompted Canadians to deal with the root causes of black incidents and frustration.

Africville Demolished
Africville is a historical black neighbourhood and in 1962, it was demolished by the city of Halifax. Anti-Black racism really influenced this detrimental act and this was a big act for Canada as they chose to evict many racialized groups from their own neighbourhoods. This is said to be a act of racism as they had decades of neglect and the placement of bad services. The last Africville destroyed was in January, 1970. This is important in Canadian history as this act of racism shows how bad the situation towards black communities were back then and how they demolished and played with innocent people.
