For example, on March 10 2016 the Lancet study showed that federal universal background checks can reduce 56.9% of deaths by firearms and also ammunition background checks have been seen to reduce deaths by a stunning 82.5% (ProCon.org) So what does this mean? This proves that through the Lancet study if the government was to implant federal background checks and background checks for ammunition through these simple actions the amount of deaths that could be saved is unspeakable.  For instance if we were able to implant stricter gun control laws mass School Shootings such as the school shooting at Stoneman Douglas Highschool could have been prevented. But it was not, showing that the gun control laws in action right now are too weak. This was proven after investigators found out that Cruz the school shooter got his hands on a semi-automatic AR-15 instantly including, he was under age being only 19, and well documented emotional issues. (Dolasia) Don’t you think this is crazy? WELL NO... because the way America is right now Cruz is only one of the few examples. The way Cruz got his hands so easy on a gun proves that if we don’t act, the amount of mass and school shootings will never go down but get worse. 

On the other hand, many people side with the National Rifle Association (NRA) for their rights to own guns and to prevent stricter gun laws from being created. To demonstrate Wanye LaPierre famously said in 2012 fighting for people's rights, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” (Smith) Wayne LaPierre clearly articulates that the only way to stop a person who has the wrong intention with a gun is someone else with a gun ready to stop him. However, WE all know this is clearly not true because there are many ways to stop a person with a gun other than violence and the best way right now is by creating stricter gun laws to stop the interaction with guns between people before it even happens. For example, this is proven after Australia implanted stricter gun laws after the result of the worst mass shooting they ever had. To demonstrate, “Australia, for example, had 13 mass shootings from 1979 to 1996. After a gunman killed 35 people in 1996, the country passed strict laws banning many weapons. It hasn’t had a mass shooting since.” (A.I. Leshner) As this quote proves the best way to stop conflict with guns is to end them before the conflict even has the chance to arise. The reason it’s necessary for the government to implant stricter gun control laws now before the United States has to face such a mass shooting as Australia.

In the end, the problem is people don’t understand that with the government creating stricter gun laws doesn't take away people's rights to own a gun. To demonstrate, an 8th grader at CMS noted that people with gun permits should be allowed to always use guns at a gun range, or to hunt (Stretton). Through this response it shows us a solution we can use so guns can still be used but not in a way of harm. Overall, this shows the importance of why we need stricter gun control laws because at the end of the day the benefits of stricter gun laws have been proven time and time again. So in my eyes the decision comes down to the states and government that if it’s worth the time and effort to save the middle schoolers and the people of the future generations of the United States from the threat of wrongfully wielded guns.
