How do you plan to use Blended Learning in your Social Studies classroom this school year? What Blended Learning model that you learned about in Module 1 best describes your desired classroom and why?
After you post your response take a moment to look through other's responses and respond thoughtfully.

Tanner Lingbloom Post:
1. For this school year, I plan to use blended learning in my 11th grade US history course by recording myself going through my lectures/PowerPoints really trying to hit all the major parts of the TEKS so that students who are absent or could benefit from them could watch/listen to it over and over again to help them comprehend what we learned that day.
2. The blended learning model that I learned about in module 1 that best describes my desired SS class would have to be the flipped classroom as this allows the student the option to do work outside the classroom and/or have access to the learning material outside of the classroom just in case they need more time to digest the info but cannot stay for tutorials afterschool.

Ann Okafor
1. I plan on using blended learning in my world history/10th grade classroom to provide differentiated instruction for my ELL students. I want my students to be able to watch my pre-recorded lectures and take guided notes their own pace before moving on to the main assignment. After completing an assignment, they have to complete an Exit Ticket online to show mastery in concept/objective. I can use the data to provide additional support for students who are struggling and what areas I need to reteach.
2. I like the flipped classroom model where students have to watch and take notes about the lesson before class and we can use in class time to work on group projects and discussions.

Christy Carlson
I think using blended learning to deliver more of my social studies lessons would really engage my students and help them become more excited about social studies content.
I plan to try to use a blended learning model similar to the one shown in the elementary video with a brief teacher led lesson and then students rotating through stations. I liked how one of the teachers in the video mentioned planning horizontally rather than linearly and I hope to try this. I think students will find it more engaging to be problem solving and completing activities with partners, rather than just listening to a teacher lesson or reading from the textbook. I think I could try more of a flipped classroom for some topics but at the elementary level, they may need to watch the videos at school as part of a rotation... but I like the idea of having more time to engage students with things they are having difficulty with in small groups while others work in rotations or with partners. I think this could work well with map skills.

Emily Rypien
I am glad to be doing this PD this year, because last year my S.S. lessons always seemed rushed. This year, I can plan around doing a more tech friendly S.S. environment. For Kinder, it might be difficult to use something like Padlet. I plan to make my lessons more engaging. In this module, I liked the percentage breakdown and I was able to visualize through the videos what I can do. I would record myself teaching the teacher-led portion. Then, I would send them off to do rotations in small groups. I would create playlists on YouTube to watch kid-friendly videos over the topics. I can also upload the videos that they have watched for students who might have missed the days.

I can create videos, use the Pearson virtual option and Power Point presentations.

For the virtual learning phase, I think I am going to use the Flipped classroom model. I can prepare some videos that they can watch or assign some book that they can read/listen and then review with them what they learned. Why because I think after the students complete the assignments I can talk with them and I can find out if they understand the concept, at the same time all of the students in the classroom can benefits at the moment to share their answers. But when we come back to the classroom I want to use Station Rotation.

Scott Jung:

I like the flipped class. I think it will save time for both the teacher and the student. The student can receive the line part of the lesson online at home or elsewhere. The teacher then will implement the hook during in-class and the students can start or complete the sinker with the teacher's guidance in-class. I think the reason why this would be effective is because I think students prefer to read or watch a video by themselves without the distraction of their peers. They will be better able to focus and concentrate and learn the line content. Once they are in class, the peers can be an asset to perform their sinker activity cooperatively such as a project, skit, or other group projects.

I plan to continue using the flipped classroom model during distance learning this year. Last year, I created videos of myself reading instructional texts for students to watch at home. The next day we would have a lesson using the focal text they had already read the night before. This was very helpful because they were able to share meaningful input to class discussions on Zoom. I plan to use the digital Pearson textbook to record myself reading informational passages. Then during Zoom meetings, we will complete activities that support the learning objectives. If students were not able to complete their work at home, I will provide them with a small group or one-on-one Zoom session where I can help them become up to date on assignments.
The best Blended Learning model that describes my desired classroom is Station Rotation. The model includes opportunities to differentiate instruction based on student needs. For my EL students, it would be beneficial to have a flexible groups to meet their learning goals.
-Alejandrina Martinez

1. When it comes to blended learning I want to be able to have my students always have a place to reference back to so posting notes online. I want to also make all HW assignments online especially when it comes to group work so they are all able to keep track and have access to the assignment.
2. I feel a flipped classroom is more of my forte, just because I feel giving the students the responsibility of taking care of their own work makes them more invested into their learning.

I plan to use blended learning once we are partially back at school. For now it will be all online. However, I have blended my instruction for several years with tools like ItsLearning, Google Classroom, and the Google Education Suite. It won't differ too much from before, except we will be meeting virtually rather than face to face for the time being. I will add the element of student control over things like pace by allowing them to go to the next lesson/objective should they show mastery of the current lesson/objective. This will take work on the front end, but the semester is already planned out as my guide. I will record some short videos to go with lesson.

My ideal classroom would be a flexible, pace yourself model. I hope to get that once I have settled in and taught here for a while.
