our world in not equal, goodness and evil always existed, from the beginning of existence, discussing this issue of inequality require logic or philosophy, for instance, human beings are special for the gift of mind, our mind judges and decides our actions, having a mind, thoughts, feelings means that we are responsible for our actions. If we go further and talk about wild laws, animals do not have the ability to think, often we see violence between it and feel sorry for that situation we even wish to change it, in wild there is no place for weakness, but of course there is a wisdom for such creation, scientists have several explanation for its rough behavior. Moreover, people's violence is explained as a mental illness, very often this is true. If a person wanted to harm someone and found a way to do it, should we blame that person or his system which allowed him to have a weapon, even though, having a weapon can be done either legally or not. In my opinion, security is needed and absolutely preferable , but in what way? using the same tools of mess and violence, in this case, everyone can justify himself or herself, the good ones wanted to protect themselves, the evil ones have mental illness. It is a crazy world indeed, humans always fought each other for several reasons, ethnic, religion, politic.. power. violence never solved the problem!
after I saw that video I recognised that, there are some people hiding their desire ( to shot a person) not only in order to be safe, but also because they want to be in a position of control and power, like those who have chosen 'a teacher having gun' , see for instance the tragic experience of that 17 years old student, I thought he would be the first one to agree with ' teacher having gun', he did not. "guns are great equalizer, it gives me a peace of mind", I do not agree,
here I already notice a kind of mental issue, I think 'the great equalizer' should be the control of violence, looking for realistic solutions, effective ones, because a gun against a gun never did and never will offer peace. "if we all took guns, it would not stop violence", yes indeed, having guns also, did not stop violence.

Teylor says that owning a gun makes her less vulnerable than people would think. Heather also talks about the responsibility to train but even if you train, it isn't the same when you're in an actual dangerous situation. Moreover, you would be able to kill someone, so how is it justice? How is a dangerous object, a weapon that can kill, going to make you feel at peace? It feels as if these people do not see the dangerous nature and the violence of guns. Guns are a way to solve violence by violence. Maj says he "thinks about freedom". How are guns, violent objects, going to represent freedom? They talk about protecting themselves but the truth is that with guns, you harm people. Maj says that in his neighbourhood, "we just get numb to it" because it happens so often. He also says that anyone watching this video probably knows someone who experienced that. How is something this dangerous normalised? I do not agree with Jaaye's comment that "if we took all the guns, it would not stop the violence". Of course people who want to harm people will always find a way to do it but it doesn't excuse the fact that guns are so easily accessible. Guns just make it easier to harm people and incite people to do it. I do agree that America has a mental health problem, but it is the case of probably every country in the world, but still the United States is the only one with a mass shooting problem which proves that guns are part of the problem. Plus, if you agree that mental health is the problem, you shouldn't find it normal for unstable people to have access to guns so easily.

Before starting this "Ice Breaking" activity, I had a clear opinion on this issue. In a idealized world I dream of, there is no gun and no violence. But this video gave me further arguments. Indeed, I have never debated on this issue. The people around me share the same opinion than me about it. But this video asked me another question : Is banning weapons the answer to prohibit violence and mass-shouting ?
Are guns a great equalizer ? It could be (if you think in terms of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth). Every people has his own weaknesses but in my opinion the issue is not here. "How minorities are treated in America ?" - that is the real question. That means how racism and discrimation are treated ? And to go further, how people are educated ?

Hi, I'm Vanessa. I was shocked recently by the increasing number of deaths by firearms in France, mostly settling of accounts linked to drugs, and yet it is nothing compared to what happens in the US. I was surprised that only John thought that it should be harder to get a gun. I agree with those who said that there is a mental health problem, some people should definitely not be authorized to have a gun. Of course, even without guns there would still be murders and assaults, but someone with a gun will always make more casualties than someone with a knife for instance. There really is a different mentality in the US as regards this subject, I can't imagine how someone could find it "recreational" to go out and shoot at bunnies, like someone said in the debate; what a strange and unhealthy occupation. I would not feel safe living in a country where almost anyone can carry a gun. I think that the US will never be able to turn back on this issue, too many people consider it an individual right.

Hello everyone. After having watched and listened to each and every argument, I must say that both parties have convincing arguments. After the Aurora shooting in 2012, an American journalist, Michael Moore, wrote an article about mass shootings in the USA. He wrote that gun rights advocates often say that "guns do not kill people, people kill people". They are half-right. You need someone to fire the gun and therefore he rephrased that slogan and wrote "Guns do not kill people, Americans kill people. » Hayden is right when he says that America has a mental health problem. This is probably one of the roots of mass shootings among others. I do not believe guns are an equaliser, I do not believe I would feel safer if I had one. If you need a gun to feel safe then there is a deeper issue in the society you live in and this should be your concern.

In this debate we are thinking about whether allowing or prohibiting weapons is the solution, but maybe we should think about changing something in education. In the US, people learn from a young age that going through the streets with a gun means being more protected, but perhaps what they don't know is how unprotected they are in the law if they hurt someone. Perhaps, in schools, they should teach another type of protection such as defense without weapons. I think obviously, if guns are banned in the country, it will significantly reduce the number of people who carry them. People will gradually stop wearing them and there will be less chance of mass shouting. humans are capable of adapting to changes. As in other countries, smoking has been stopped thanks to the prohibition of tobacco in bars, restaurants, bus stops ... I think that people would stop carrying weapons if a law prohibits it. But, finally, I sincerely believe that in this violent world we are heading to, there is still a long way to go. María DIEZ
