The most significant thing I saw/read was that there is an issue going on outside of school that is affecting the child's behavior. They are not just born as good or bad kid. Because of it I will pull the child aside when the behavior begins to arise and have a one to one conversation with them. It would help me understand what is going on and let the child know that I am there to support them and try to help them fix the behavior before it becomes a bigger issue.

I get so caught up in the academics and the pressures of test results, etc. that I forget the importance of listening to my kids stories, thoughts, feelings. I Get so frustrated by certain behaviors that I forget the home lives and backgrounds of each kid. Because of this reminder, I will be more intentional about listening to my students and doing things to build relationships with them! We will have more fun!

Everyone is fighting some sort of battle, and whether it be big or small, we need to be aware that this can effect how we respond to situations. The most significant thing that I have read and viewed is that not every student should be treated the same. This goes back to our view of academics, every student has a different level of experiences and abilities. We differentiate our teaching styles and lessons, and I believe now that I need to really focus on differentiation with response to behavior.

The most significant thing I saw/read was that we don't always know what is going on at home. There are all kinds of things going on in these kids lives, that most of us probably haven't experienced and we have no idea what it's like for them. Because of this I will take into consideration the behaviors of these kids and where they stem from. Knowing that maybe the only structure and love they see is from teachers at school, and that's why they are acting how they are. They want that attention, even though it may be negative.

The most significant thing I saw in the video is, we don't know what is going on outside of school. This results to students coming to school with behavioral issues because some don't know how to handle their emotions or what they are going to do. Because of it, I will be mindful on my discipline actions and be aware of how I handle a situation. I learned that getting to know your students on a personal level they are more likely to open up to you and build a trust relationship with you.
In the other video, I observed that many kids ARE the product of their environment.

Children and adults bring their home life with them to school. As an adult, it is hard to separate the two to be able to function at school. If this is hard for adults, we can't expect children to be able to do it easily. Because of this, I will keep in mind that I don't know the whole story. I really like the idea of a calm down place in my room and I'm going to brainstorm where in my room that could be and how to make it happen.

Exclusion does not work. Acting out is a symptom, not the actual underlying cause of the problem. Because of it, I will be more intentional in getting to know my students as individuals, not just as my whole class. I will be more understanding, encouraging, and will to show grace. I will look out for those teachable moments which allow for me to model acceptable behaviors and to promote more love in our classroom family.
