Senesh became a symbol of idealism and self-sacrifice. She was born july 17, 1921 and died november 7, 1944. She was born in Budapest and was a daughter of an author and journalist. 1943 she joined the British army and volunteered to be parachuted in Europe. She was on of the thirty three people chosen to be able to parachute behind enemy lines she trained in Egypt. March 1944 she parachuted into Yugoslavia because of the goal of reaching her Native Budapest. At the height of the deportation of Hungarian Jews, Senesh crossed the border into Hungary. Hungarian police caught her almost immediately after she arrived and tortured her repeatedly over the next several months. After all of this she started refusing to tell any information about her arrival.
