My initial plan was to make a five to seven minute video about Zumi, their adventures in the real world, and how this character has brought lightness and joy into my life during these difficult times. I was aiming to make two claymations and one short that combined live action footage with digital cel animation. If I had enough time, I was interested in making a stop motion animation using colored construction paper. Richard and my peers’ feedback from the critique was very helpful and they suggested to just use Instagram as a platform to introduce Zumi to the world. This would allow me to humanize Zumi and to make them more relatable for viewers. I rewrote my brief and explained how I will be making a body of work that includes photography, graphics, gifs and videos surrounding my imaginary character, Zumi. I made the decision to make a photography series called 'Zumi's World' about the joys of having imaginary friends as an adult. The concept of this series is derived from a my previous photographic work, Good Spirits, a collection of playfully-modified family photographs inspired by artist Angela Deane's Ghost Photographs. I used a Fujifilm Instax Wide 300 camera that instantly prints images that resemble classic Polaroid photographs. They look like they were taken any time in an American suburb between the years of 1990 and the present. I also used this camera because aside from adjusting the brightness and contrast, the images cannot be edited and thus, they honestly capture the moment.

I have made a profile dedicated to all things Zumi and have started to post photos, graphics, illustrations, gifs, and videos to introduce my special imaginary friend to the world. I will post content little by little so that Zumi's followers and curious observers will have a surprises and fun visuals to look forward to every week for the next few months. In the past four days (22-26 Feb), I have already made 15 posts for Zumi's debut. I want to work with the grid structure and post in sets of three images to maintain a cohesive and organized layout for the profile. This is an on-going project; Even after this programme, I will keep building this body of work.
