A Card Sort is a quick and easy way to spark conversation about what matters most to the people you’re designing for. By putting a deck of cards, each with a word or single image, in someone’s hands and then asking them to rank them in order of preference, you’ll gain huge insight into what really counts. You can also use the Card Sort exercise to start a deeper conversation about what he or she values and why.

Group leader: Remake this Padlet (Top right hand screen). Email its link to every team member. Open up online timer and skim the steps while your team catches up. Could allow team to work in pairs.

STEPS:
1. Make a series of posts that reflect your audience's needs in regards to your issue. Make sure that each card is an easily understood concept. Aim for 10 posts (minimum) for the group. You might like to recheck Maslow's Hierachy of Needs but make your descriptions specific to your audience and the issue you are focusing on..

2. Repeat this process but focus on posts that reflect your audience's wants (desires and dreams) in regards to your issue. Aim for another 10.

3. As a group decide if each posts is a need or a want and colour them accordingly. Click on the ... for each post-it and you will get a colour option. PINK FOR NEEDS and YELLOW for WANTS.

4. Refine your 'list' down to the most important 10 posts that reflect exactly the needs and wants of your audience. Only 10. Allow everyone to participate in this discussion as each person should be clear why certain needs or wants were less important were deleted or stayed.

5. Sort the remaining post-its into order of importance for your user. Again encourage each person to participate in this discussion

FINALISE YOUR PADLET:
Do you have time to change the colour of your Padlet to better suit your presentation? Is there time to find a more descriptive or clear image for the need you have decided to keep?

GROUP LEADER: Delete the instructions in this post but leave the image. Add the embed code for Padlet into your group SWAY. Go to Share (top right hand screen) and Share/Export/Embed. Copy embed code and paste this into an Embed card in group SWAY.
