I believe Jonas and Gabe started to get hypothermia and hallucinated. In the book when Jonas says, "He got off and let it drop sideways into the snow. For a moment he thought how easy it would be to drop beside it himself, to let himself and Gabreiel slide into the softness of snow, the darkness of night, the warm comfort of sleep." I think that is the part when he hallucinates and falls into the snow. But I also think someone found him and Gabe, put them in some moving vehicle of some kind, and he thought he was still moving on towards a destanation. But the only reason why I think they are still alive is because there are more books.

I think Jonas and Gabe got hypothermia. First off because he says that he started to feel happy. This means that they lost control of their minds and are nearing the end. Second he said he started hearing music. This is not possible if he never got the memory of music. So I think he is imagining what he thinks is music. Lastly the text says "Jonas started to loose consciousness". If he started to loose his conscious, I don't think it would come back to him so easily like the way it did. He also says that the house with the singing people was his favorite memory so he probably was just seeing things because that was what he and the giver liked. You also need to face the facts a little bit. What i mean is that there is no way that they survived in a snowstorm for that long. You also can't forget how under dressed they were for this snowstorm.

I believe Jonas started experiencing hypothermia. It started to snow heavily, and Jonas and Gabe were freezing to death, slowly. "Memories of joy flooded through him suddenly," which is a sign on hypothermia; happy memories suddenly flooding through you. His hands then "fumbled for the rope," referring to the sled that magically appeared at the top of the hill. As he was riding down the hill with Gabe in his hands, he heard echos of music, which I believe was the last of his memories, fading away. "He forced his eyes open as they went downward, downward, sliding, and all at once he could see lights, and he recognized them now." This quote is another example of Jonas experiencing hypothermia. He was hallucinating, thinking he could see lights through the thick, heavy snow and hear voices that must of been only from memory. It would of made no sense if he had actually heard people because what would they be doing? Sitting around a campfire, singing tunes in the middle of a blizzard? I don't think so... What happened to Gabe? Although there is no way to know for sure, I believe there was a chance of him staying alive. Since Jonas had given him the memory of sunlight, he may have recalled it and kept it until either he died, or someone found him, or quite possibly was found

I believe that at the end of The Giver Jonas and Gabe where still alive. Towards the end of the story in chapter Jonas started showing signs of hypothermia, so I think that he might have passed out and someone came and found Gabe and him . At the very end of the story Jonas says things like how he sees lights. He is also getting happy, and hearing "echos".I think that he has found a community that has taken him in and Gabe and Jonas are now in the hospital where he hears the echos of the doctors talking. Jonas says " we are almost there, Gaberiel. I remember this place." I believe that the giver knew that Jonas was going to go on this "journey" and so he gave hi the memory of a specific hill and of trees and lights so that when he got to the top of the hill he would recognize where he was and not give up hope.

I think that Jonas died because it says that hears music behind him but all there was behind him was snow. I also think that Gabe survived and a family toke him in because it says that Jonas gives him all the memories he has of warmth so he has a better chance of surviving. At the end of the story it says that Jonas sees lights and in the condition he was in Jonas probably died of hypothermia which leads me to saying that the lights were a hallucination.

I think that Jonas and Gabriel find "the elsewhere that was holding their future and their past" when they finish sledding, because Jonas has a memory of that place. It is the first memory the Giver ever gave to Jonas, and Jonas always felt as if there was something or somewhere he needed to get to in that memory and he found it at the end of his ride. Plus in the text it says "and all at once he could see the lights, and recognized them now". So he obviously knows where this place is and what it is. It also says "final destination" which I am guessing is the final destination in the memory that he never finished or understood, but he has found it now.

I can predict that from the way the book ended, Jonas found civilization. By this I mean people who don't live in the community that Jonas grew up in. The reason that I think this is, ¨...Jonas found the sled that was waiting for them at the top of the hill.¨ This piece of evidence proves that he found civilization because there had to be kids or other people that put a sled at the top of a hill.
Another example is, ¨He knew that they were shining through the windows of rooms, that they were red, blue, and yellow lights that twinkled from trees in places where families created and kept memories, where they celebrated love.¨ Since it is snowing outside, this probably means it is near Christmas, so Jonas is describing all the Christmas decorations that are hanging outside of someones house. If there is a house, then that means there are people living in it.
My last piece of evidence to support me theory is, ¨He heard people singing.¨ There could have been Christmas music playing somewhere in the distance, which could have been why he heard music. However, if there was music playing, then that means someone had to turn it on.

I think that Jonas suffered from hypothermia and all the events leading up to the ending support my theory. The first sign of hypothermia is shivering and Jonas and Gabriel were described as cold and shivering in the book. Confusion and lack of coordination are other tale-tell signs of hypothermia, and in the book is says, ¨One night Jonas fell, when the bike jolted to a sudden stop against a rock." Then Jonas begins to show signs of fatigue, it even states that ¨he pushed on the pedals with his numb, exhausted legs.¨ Lastly Jonas is said to have ¨Memories of joys flooded through him suddenly, ¨ and this suggests that Jonas is experiencing hallucinations. Lastly, it says ¨he knew there was warmth and light," and ¨they were red, blue, and yellow lights,¨ which I interpreted as him seeing the light. My theory is that Jonas goes unconsious and he sleds into what is known as Elsewhere.

I think that Jonas and Gabe(99.999% chance Gabe died) died. I think that they died mainly because of three main facts. First Jonas experiences all of the symptoms of hypothermia which left unchecked which it was can lead to death. Second near the end of the book Jonas starts to remember all of his own experiences and memories, when their all done he starts to remember the last of his memories ( the sled which was to perfect to be a coincidence and the Christmasy houses from the Giver's favorite memory) this would be the equivalent to someones life flashing before their eyes a commonly seen trope in near death or death experiences. Finally I think they died because of the use of the term final destination, this is what Jonas thinks as elsewhere. People may think that him reaching elsewhere shows that he has gotten to safety however I think that elsewhere is a representation of heaven or even just death. I think this because elsewhere is described by the community and that description is where people go when they are "released" which we know means killed. This simple fact makes feel that elsewhere means death not safety (or at least not safety in the way most people think).

I believe that Jonas died due to hypothermia, and all the memories were played one more time before they were released in to the unknown. When you experience hypothermia, you start to to feel nausea, and in the text it says ¨The snow was swirled, blurring his vision.¨ So hypothermia is causing nausea and is causing him to sea double. Also at the end of the story it says ¨he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo.¨ So this shows that he is possibly hallucinating because he is hearing things, and hallucination is a symptom of hypothermia. Another reason why I think Jonas died of hypothermia is because the text says ¨Jonas felt him self losing consciousnesses.¨ SO this might mean he was losing consciousness and thats a sign of hypothermia.

In my opinion, Jonas and Gabe have reached Elsewhere. In Jonas's community, music and singing don't exist. Here, he hears singing, music, and most importantly, he feels love. This is a sign that he has reached elsewhere, and his memories have reached the people of his community. The author describes this as "red, blue, and yellow lights that twinkled from the trees in places where families created and kept memories, where they celebrated love". Before he reaches the house, he felt happiness flow through him, "Memories of joy flooded through him suddenly". This shows that he was nearing the end of his journey. The author also proves this by writing "lead to the final destination", hinting that his work was complete or he had reached Elsewhere. All of his memories are flowing back to him suddenly, which may mean that he has reached elsewhere and he is seeing them for the last time before they leave. Because Jonas is feeling so much happiness and warmth, this may give him and Gabe the strength to survive.

I believe that Jonas is hallucinating. The last sentence states,"But perhaps it was only an echo". This quote shows that the "Elsewhere' can be in his head. If he had all of these memories from the past then how will it be right in front of him. The Elsewhere can just be a hallucination caused by the memories that was given to him. I think it is a possible outcome that the community can be a real thing but the idea that he is hallucinating seems more logical in my opinion. In the book it said,"He no longer cared about himself". This shows signs of him making bad decisions for his personal health. Showing early signs of hypothermia starting to kick in. The last quote that I will use to prove it is,"Jonas felt himself losing consciousness...". This quotes can show how Jonas had already fell asleep and was just dreaming about seeing the House of Lights. When somebody falls asleep you don't really remember the last couple of minutes of being conscious. That's why I think that Jonas was hallucinating.

I believe that Jonas and Gabe began to slowy get exhausted and experiece symptoms of Hypothermia. Although the author does leave us with a cliffhanger, the last sentence could mean something. "But perhaps it was only an echo." One symptom of hypothermia is hallucination. Jonas could have just been hallucinating. Many signs of hypothermia are shown in the text. "He forced his eyes open as they went downward..." This quote from the story could show fatigue and could explain why he felt so tired. Although this theory could be a jump, maybe Jonas was starting to slowly die with Gabriel. Many people make the assumption that whenever you die, your life recaps in your head. The sled memory could be something that was flashing before his eyes. Near the end it also says, "Suddenly he was aware with certainty and joy that below, ahead, they were waiting for him..." Another sign of hallucination is being overwhelmed with joy and excitement, and Jonas is. Gabriel cant survive on his own, so I think he just drifted off when Jonas started to lose consciousness slowly but surely. Jonas clearly is experiencing hypothermia.

I believe that Jonas and Gabe reached elsewhere. I think that together they crossed the border and that caused all of the memories are going to flow back to the people of the utopia. It said in the book that the sled "sped through what seemed to be his final destination". Jonas was trying to pass elsewhere so that everyone would experience the memories. The sled continued down the hill, faster and faster and I think that there was a house waiting for Jonas and Gabe. A house like the ones we live in, and people who understand things like we do. I also think that the memory of the sled was Jonas's first memory because the giver knew that Jonas was going to want to go to elsewhere to help the people understand the life that they are missing.

I think so because he was showing symptoms of hypothermia, but I wouldn't say he has gotten to the point where he could have dies from it. I know this because in the text it states,"Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo." That last quote in the text didn't really give any clues about Jonas dying besides him thinking he had imagined the lights in the rooms of the houses. Besides Jonas, I honestly think he had died from Hypothermia. I think so because a baby I wouldn't think can survive such extreme climate and coldness.

In my opinion I believe that Jonas and Gabe have found the "Elsewhere", I think they both died of hypothermia and starvation. I believe this because Jonas experienced similar symptoms of Hypothermia. The cause of all this was most likely a blizzard because in the text it states "blurring his vision" and" blinding storm". He experienced Shivering, drowsiness, clumsiness and confusion. In the text it states"He didn't make it very far before he stumbled and fell forward." His legs were numb and his body temperature was decreasing rapidly, which made it harder and harder to keep his balance. At the end of the text it talks about how Jonas was seeing a old memory of a sled which felt very real to him, this was probably confusion. Jonas and Gabe are both very young, they don't have as much strength as an adult would and they have never experienced this type of weather. Also they have not eaten in a long time, so they could have also past due to starvation.

I believe that Jonas and Gabriel were found by people from elsewhere. I believe that because in the text it says, "He forced his eyes open as they went downward, downward, sliding, and all at once he could see lights, and he recolonized them now. He knew they were shinning through windows of rooms, that they were red, blue, and yellow lights that twinkled from trees in places where families often created and kept memories, where they celebrated love." This quote explains that Jonas found elsewhere and it is like the way we live now because the quote says that their are different colored lights on trees inside and we had trees like that inside during Christmas time. In the text it says, "Behind him, across vast distance of space and time, from the place he just had left, he thought he heard music too." This quote explains that at the bottom of the hill their is elsewhere and he heard music but then he fainted because he was very cold, hungry and weak. In the text it also says, "Using his final strength , and a special knowledge that was deep inside him, Jonas found the sled that was waiting for him at the top of the hill." This quote explains the he had this memory before and he has found elsewhere.

Based on my terrible knowledge from the movie and the well detailed information from the book, I believe that Gabriel and Jonas did travel to the house of lights and echoes. They were taken in by the presumed people and cared for and became apart of their family. Reasons to believe this include how they were still pushing through the tough conditions that were given to him and as this occurred, they were given a certain boost of hope. "Memories of joy flooded through him suddenly." Although Jonas does not have memories of great courage, he still has a large desire to save Gabriel and himself from the current weather conditions. "I remember this place, Gabe." As I have seen how Jonas cares for Gabriel's safety, I am inferring that he will not let some frozen water stand in his way of happiness and freedom. Based on my previous knowledge of the story, and the book's details, I am pretty sure that this place of echoes and music should not be more than twenty yards away. Considering that he could hear the music in a full blown snow storm, he should be able to reach the house.

The reason I think this is because in the book when it said that "perhaps it was an only an echo" then he must be hallucinating because you just don't hear an echo out of the blue. My next reason why I think he is dead because the author wrote "Jonas felt himself lose consciousness" and that he was losing eyesight. I think this proves that he was about to die because you don't loose eyesight when your about to fall asleep. The last sign that leads me to think that he is dead is when it said "He found the sled that was waiting at the top of the hill". I think this justifies two thing one the author used foreshadowing with the sled in the memory but also how he was just thinking about the sled moments before he saw one that just happened to be there when he made it to the top of the hill. I think he was halucinating.

I think Jonas and Gabe had major hypothermia. The couple of reasons why I think this explain it perfectly. As they realized it got colder and colder, Jonas started to get fatigued all over his body. After that it started snowing and that's when you know the conditions of weather and effects of hypothermia kick in. Of course, as I was saying, it did kick in. When Jonas was going up the hill, he could barely even get up it. Next, when he got to the top of the hill he just randomly found the same sled that was in his dream just chilling there. That is a sign of hypothermia through hallucinations. Another hallucination that he was having was that he could here music. In the text it says, "behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he had heard music too." He has never heard music beside a couple of times in his memories but this was a different type of music. It was described as a echo. As the text says, "perhaps it was only an echo." When I think of somebody that barely even knows what music is and might even think its an echo I would say that they are hearing things. I personally think that the echo was the ringing in his ears as he was slowly dying. And all of that basically explains what happened to Jonas. Hypothermia. Death.

I believe that there is no way that Jonas found the exact same place as before with a sled just waiting for him. He wouldn't have just stumbled upon some place that he had a memory of. On page 157, Jonas learns about love. This memory took place in the house with warmth and love. On page 225 the text almost refers to the past memory of the yellow light from the houses. In Conclusion, I think that Jonas suffered hypothermia, and his memories started replaying in his head.

I believe that Once they reached the top of the hill Jonas passed out. After wards I think every good memory he had experienced was now playing through him almost a like when he gives them away he sees them one last time then they are gone. We know this from pg 221 when it says, "For a felting second he felt that he wanted to keep it for himself." It says in the Book on pg 224 it says, "Jonas found the sled that was waiting for them at the top of the hill." As we all know this was the first memory given to him and it was one of Jonas's favorites. After he gets on the sled he begins riding it down the hill and he sees homes and flashing lights around him. It says this on pg 225 bit says, "He knew they were shining through the windows of rooms." In conclusion I think that all the memory's he holds are being transmitted to the people now and he is just seeing them for the last time.

I'm believe that Gabe and Jonas did actually get too their destination. Towards the end they do show signs of hypothermia. This includes being extremely joyful and hallucinating. He claimed that he saw the house of lights. I've heard that some people say before you go up to heaven there is a white light. He could've been thinking it was a house but it might've been his transition into the after light. So i believe that he died of hypothermia. He was in a blizzard which are the conditions to make hypothermia possible. He also had a very thin lair of clothing on so it was easier to get cold. The author said,"He forced his eyes open as they went downward". This shows that his eyes were already closed. When he forced his eyes open, his eyes actually didnt open. he opened them when he was on his way to "the great beyond". I also think it is foreshadowing. The author said earlier i the book,"He found a sled that was at the top of the hill." This shows that jonas was going to perish in the snow.

Based off of the book and the movie, I think Jonas did not die because of this very sentence,"Suddenly he was aware with certainty and joy that below, ahead, they were waiting for him; and that they were waiting, too, for the baby." This sentence suggests that people are waiting for Jonas and Gabe. Even if they pass out from hypothermia or something else, they will probably still make it and receive care from whoever was down there. Another quote I used to support my answer was,"For the first time, he heard something that he knew to be music. He heard people singing." This quote might prove that a group of people might be there to signal him to where they are so they can receive him. The last quote I used to support my answer was,"He knew they were shining through the windows of rooms, that they were red, blue, and yellow lights that twinkled from trees in places where families created and kept memories, where they celebrated love." This quote suggests that there could be a place or community where things are different. Places where people had memories and they had feelings too.

My reasons are I feel like the top of the hill is the beginning of elsewhere. I feel that they get all the memory because they reach elsewhere so they get all there memory's but then pass out. Many people have explained after they fall into a coma or pass out they see a light. I feel like Jonas falls into a coma when he falls off his bike and suffers a head injury. It also says in the book he hears echos that is another thing people remember about waking up from an coma.
