Wednesday October 4th 2017
Drama VS the Good Doctor, similarities and differences

| Setting | Similarities: Both can be in hospitals, shows scenes of both homes and places around their city | Differences: The good Doctor focuses more on places like the hospital, because the main characters are all a part of the staff that works at the hospital, which contributes to the main view of the show.
| Values | Similarities: Both reinforce importance of relations and how everyone is connected.
| Differences: In Drama TV shows they will usually ignore racial groups, or groups out of the ordinary. In the good Doctor, the main character and focus of the show, is the young boy with autism that is trying to prove everybody wrong of what they had assumed of him. This show is involving someone with autism and showing that they can do the same things as us, if not more. This is different because Drama TV shows aren’t usually focused on these types of people or groups.

Television Genre Formulas- Isabella Francescucci

Thursday October 5th 2017

Characters~ The formula states that in a drama it showcases families going through turmoil. In The Good Doctor this is seen when someone in a family is sick or injured and they must go to the hospital. This often causes stress within the family but will bring them closer together by the end of the episode. Also, the formula states that there is a good looking cast that includes people of colour. This is proven at the beginning of the first episode when the little boy gets hurt as well as when we are introduced to the rest of the cast later on.

Emotion~ The formula states that in a drama emotion is central and is the motivation for every action. In The Good Doctor we see this throughout both episodes. From when the boy gets hit with a big sign to when two people are having a secret relationship, this show defiantly invokes a lot of emotion for the viewer.
