The teacher fails time after time to teach them. “His hand cranked generator refused to spit” (Wagner 6) is just one example of his many failures. He believes in science and all this stuff should work. Everything goes wrong however every time he tries to share. The only lesson that works is the one the biggest fail. “But his only unconstestable demonstration /  came with our last class” (Wagner 17-18) everything can go wrong, goes wrong. Nothing goes his way.  A. But after forty days without a fish the boy’s parents had told him that the old man was now definitely and finally salao, which is the worst form of unlucky, and the boy had gone at their orders in another boat which caught three good fish the first week.
 B. I think the word means crazy or unlucky because it talks about how Santiago hasn’t caught any fish.
 C.Salao comes from the Spanish word salado, meaning salty. Salao is used in the context of a fisherman being unlucky. 
 D. Not catching any fish made the fisherman very salao.
2. Benevolent
 A. The brown blotches of the benevolent skin cancer the sun brings from its reflection on the tropic sea were on his cheeks.
 B. I think it means inevitable cause of how much time he spends in the sun.
 C. Well meaning and kindly
