As the poem goes on the narrator talks about how she wants to grow up and ‘have fun’ and not be the perfect child that her parents expect her to be. He loved the city and after he did drugs in the city he didn't want to feel like that again and realized this. The city is what helped shape him into who he is since this is where he went through all his hardships. I think the loneliness of the drugs pushed him to get better.
