"That sounds dreadful! Would I have to tie my own shoes instead of letting the shoe tier? And brush my own teeth and comb my hair and give myself a bath?" (Bradbury 6).

Bradbury depicts a family who relies on technology to take care of them instead of taking care of themselves. Technology takes away a person natural ability to learn basic life skills as well as simple tasks to ensure their health/happiness. People's dependency on technology ruins their relationships with other people. Technology destroys or alters the relationship between characters causing conflict between the family members.

Is that the family has automated factors added to their house in order to simplify and ease their lives so that they have more time to spend with each other.

As Lydia and George Hadley stand and watch the automated stove humming as it makes supper for four, Lydia suggests that they go on a vacation and she can fry eggs for George and sweep the house. She tells her husband that the house now has become wife and mother, and she no longer feels needed.

"He knew the principle of the room exactly. You sent out your thoughts. Whatever you thought would appear. 'Let's have Aladdin and his lamp,' he snapped. The Veldtland remained; the lions remained" (Bradbury 4).

Bradbury exaggerates how technology has become so strong that it almost has a mind of it's own. It shows how far along technology has come and how people are beginning to lose control of the technology around them.

“That’s just it. I feel like I don’t belong here. The house is wife and
mother now, and nursemaid. Can I compete with an African veldt? Can I give a bath and scrub the children as efficiently or quickly as the automatic scrub bath can? I cannot. And it isn’t just me. It’s you. You’ve been awfully
nervous lately” (Bradbury 3).

The mother Lydia explains how she does not feel apart of the household. Technology has taken every role a mother can have making Lydia feel useless and unwelcomed. Bradbury portrays or characterizes Lydia's as a woman who does not obsess over technology. Rather, Lydia thinks negatively of technology because technology takes away her ability to do work and provide. Her anxiety with the house/technology shows how technology affects her directly.
