This source talked about the issues, ideas, and focuses of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and also how reading it at different times in life changes the meaning of it. Huck Finn should be censored to elementary school kids these days because of the language it uses and strong opinions about race and morals. This relates to a lot of the music that we listen to today. A good amount of Hip-Hop / Rap music today has the use of the N - word, yet most people listen to it and don't think it is that big of an issue. This source relates a bit to "This Amazing, Troubling Book" because it expands on the issues that the author talked about reading in Huck Finn, but focuses specifically on the aspect of the N-Word. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the N-Word is used constantly through out the book. It was common during that time period to call African Americans that word. As time has gone by to today, we know it is unacceptable to call a black person the N-Word. However, it is still used by many rappers, comedians, and even kids today in their everyday conversations. This shows that as a society, we have been moving a bit sideways in the effort to end racism. This relates to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn because Huck and Jim forgot about their differences and what society's "rules" are, and just lived respectfully together in peace. Naomi talks about her experience in the airport as living in a mini world full of kindness and how it is not too late for our world as a whole to do this. The world today and in history is always divided. There is a natural tendency to want to be better than others and live in groups separate than others. For example when America was first founded, people were more loyal to their states than the country as a whole. We need to find a way to look past any differences we have with people and try to live peacefully as one like they did in the airport.

This contrasts The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn because in the story, black people were the only group focused on that showed discrimination. There were no other groups discriminated against. This article also contrasts the other sources I have looked at because it is the first to mention anything about white people being discriminated against. It was very impressive how Ta-Nehisi Coates explained why white people shouldn't use the N-Word. This video heavily relates to, The N-Word: An Interactive Project to Explore a Singular Word, yet it becomes more specific in focusing particularly on white people's use of it. The connection to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is also there because in the book, no one was hesitant to use the N-Word, especially not white people. In today's world, at least some progress has been made where white people are questioning why they can'y use it. They simply do not have the right because the word has no personal meaning to them, it is just offensive. The article explains that people made an anti - racism banner, displayed at Fenway Park in Boston, and their reasons for doing it. This source is different than any other source I have looked at so far because it explains an event about racism that actually happened recently. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn racism was the norm in American society. It relates to this event because the banner said "Racism is as American as Baseball" which comments on the fact that racism has been around forever and is still an issue. Sports is a whole new category where racism is prevalent. Jackie Robinson did break the color barrier in baseball, but this protest is proof that racism is still around in sports today. It also give a good definition on what life is like now, how we tend to use subtle racism rather than blatant racism, but the effect of it is just as bad. This source relates to the poem "Gate A-4" a lot because it gives an idea of how to live with no racism. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn uses a lot of blatant racism. Jim is constantly called the N-word and he is visibly discriminated against. This source contrasts that because it introduces the use of subtle racism in society today and how it is just as bad. If it is just as bad, then we have really made no progress to end racism today from the time of Huck Finn. We have just change the form in which we are racist. This article also dives into the idea of no complaining aboit racism and self choice. I feel that in life, complaining does nothing about the problem. In order to make change, you have to do something about it and have the self drive and decisions to let nothing get in your way. However, to get rid of something as large as racism needs more than one persons work. That is because it talks about how black people are beginning to give up in trying to talk about race to white people because of how they never change, listen, or show respect. All of the other articles talk about the movement to end racism, which contrasts this source. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn contrasts this in a different way because during that time, black people never even talked about race because they never had the power or freedom to. The article said, "Hey man, you wouldn't go to a cancer rally shouting 'All diseases matter,' would ya?". That quote really stood out to me because it shows that white people really aren't making much progress in the effort in even understanding racism, let alone solving the issue. Racism was very bad during the time of Huck Finn, it has progressed over time, but this article is a sign that it is going in a more sideways direction. Black people are starting to not care anymore to even discuss the issue which is a big problem. No other sources relate much to this one because this is the only one to bring up why racism happens for each specific time period. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn acts as an example for this source because during this time, it was normal for people to have slaves because they felt like needed them for labor. Without slaves, in the time where our country was not stable yet, America would not have been successful. Of course any option other than slavery would have been better, I am not saying slavery was a good thing, but you have to take in account the reasoning when comparing times of racism. In today's society, there is no purpose, benefit, or reason at all for racism, yet it is still around. This contrasts The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn because during that time, the only way to be racist was to talk to someone or through your physical actions. In today's society, we have more ways than ever to be racist and we are using all of them. People tend to use social media often because they feel like there will never be any consequences against them and they can just hide behind their phone screen. People wouldn't say half the things they say online in person today because they know it is not right.
