I also like that he tries to avoid questions that require yes or no answers and makes sure to ask why or how they got that answer because it helps others understand as well

4. try to follow up student responses with "why?" - this allows you to see more of what the student is thinking/their thought process
8. try to follow up a student's response by fielding it to the class or to another student for a reaction - allows other students to give their input, creates class discussion, allows students to arrive at conclusions together
11. try to make it easy for students to ask a question anytime - it's really important that a classroom is a safe space, where students feel like they can make mistakes

Sometimes it can be good for the teacher to repeat back student responses. This way the student can hear what they said and be able to reflect on what they said. They may want to then make changes to their original statement.
