Whole class instruction is a great way for teachers to teach new concepts to their class as well as reinforce previous ones. With whole group instruction, class discussions are present which allows students to learn from their peers. An example of literary whole class instruction would be a teacher reading aloud to the class.

"If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" by Laura Numeroff is a student favorite book good for grades K-2. This is an ideal text to read aloud to the class because the text is short with simple words and sentences. The author instead puts emphasis on the vivid images that accompany the text, which makes it easy for the students to follow along.

Shared reading is another form of whole-class instruction in which the teacher uses an enlarged text in conjunction with a pointer, as the class reads the book aloud as a whole. Using a pointer makes it easier for students to follow along with the words, ensuring that they sound them all out correctly and do not skip over any.

"Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin and Eric Carle is a children's picture book published in 1967. The illustrations are big and bold, which immediately grabs the students' attention. The text itself is enlarged so it is perfect for students to read aloud together while sitting on the carpet. While there is no immediate plot in the book, it features multiple different characters all sharing their sights. This is ideal for teaching students basic reading techniques without focusing on comprehension.
