Henry Clay of KY came up with the idea that Missouri became a slave state and Maine as a free state to keep balance in power with states.Congress men that supported this in the north were called traitors.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>As John Quincy Adams predicted the "contest" over slavery was settled. In the 1830's abolitionist sent anti slavery petitions in but congress had no power to interfere with slavery in the south. John Quincy Adams had proposed that after 1842 no one could be born into slavery, but since the "gag rule" passed no one was able to speak there mind and Adams proposal was rejected.</div>]]></description>

When his men attacked they were killed or captured. Brown committed treason and was sentenced to die. This scared the south with the knowledge that it would be the Souths blood spilled  whenever there was a slave rebellion.</div>]]></description>
