For further engagement, you can make it a competition amongst students to see who gets the most right or who gets it done fastest. 

3. What's in our desks that we can recycle?: Students will use this activity as a way to sort and organize their desks and find items that are recyclable versus not like old worksheets, crayon boxes, dried-out markers, etc. Students will then add to a classroom Padlet and add the items they found and why they were able to be recycled or not. Students will use the knowledge they learned and do their own research if needed, and create arguments for the side they choose. Once arguments have been created, students will engage in a respectful debate in which they argue the benefits and costs of recycling. The facilitator of the debate will be the teacher who will ultimately decide which side argued their point the best. 

2. Students will create multimodal digital posters on Canva with partners that highlight the benefits and costs of recycling. Students will use a combination of words, visuals, videos, etc. to get their message across to their audience. When the digital posters are created, the students will have a digital gallery walk in which their classmates will be able to see the other digital posters. 

3. Students will revisit the text, Dear Earth... From Your Friends in Room 5, and create letters to the Earth that inform the Earth how they are going to change their own habits to better take care of their environment. Students will create an iMovie that shows how our own actions are impacting the environment, specifically our animals. Students will use the text Nico's New Necklace to guide their choices and highlight the negative impacts of throwing away plastic. Students will use images and videos to capture the effects humans have on the environment, while voice recording for their audience to listen to.

2. Students will collect plastic bottles that are sitting around their house and need to be recycled. Students will play a game of bottle bowling in which students try to knock over the pins. Students will then properly recycle the bottles as a class. Students will then write a story that highlights how they positively impacted their environment by collecting plastic bottles, sorting them, and then recycling them. Students can create narrative characters like Nico the seagull to show how their choices of recycling plastic positively impacted Nico or other animals.

3. Students will complete a concept map that shows the positive impacts of reducing, reusing, and recycling on the environment. Students will then create an object out of the goods that they brought in. Items the students could make are robots, model-sized forts, boats, etc. After the creations are completed, students will draw a picture of their creation and label whether each part is recyclable or not. 

2. As a class, students will make a response on Jamboard that highlights how they are going to make a difference in their environment. Each student will get to fill one page with words, pictures, videos, etc. Students will create I can statements that highlight the exact actions they will partake in to make a difference in our world through the 3 R's: reduce, reuse, recycle. 

3. Students will create a how-to guide on how to protect the earth. This how-to guide will serve as an action plan for those who are looking to make a difference in saving the planet but are not sure where to start.
