Zachary Kermit, a teacher at Greenwich Middle School for almost thirty years was looking forward to early retirement. For the past 27 years, his passion for teaching changed due to being wrongfully accused in a cheating scandal. Even though so much time had passed, he never was back to himself. However, the day Kiana Roubini & the rest of the Unteachables of SCS-8 step foot in room 117, things would never be the same. The huge transformation takes place over the next couple months. The students along with Mr. Kermit would not be defined by their learning difficulties or past. They could not have done it without the support of Miss Fountain and Jake Terranova. Finally, since Mr. Kermit found his love for teaching again, he changed his plans on retiring.

Mr. Kermit faces external conflict when at the beginning of the story, he didn't want any contact with Jake. Through Emma, the Unteachables and unexpected time together, Jake and Mr Kermit's relationship changed. He went from seeing Jake as a person who really cared for his students rather than his former middle school student who was responsible for the cheating scandal all those years ago.

The crossword puzzle represents a time at the beginning of the school year that Mr. Kermit is focused on anything but his students. He would spend most of the class time drinking his coffee while working on crossword puzzles while students completed worksheets he never graded.

The vuvuzelas represent a thing that drove Mr. Kermit crazy. Each year, he did not look forward to Spirit Week because of them. This year his students were not included in any spirit week activities even though he fought for them to be. The students of room 117 were trying to protect him by getting rid of the entire shipment of vuvuzelas that were delivered to the school.

The name "Ribbit" represents a name given to Mr. Kermit by the Unteachables. It started at the beginning of the year, the kids saying "Ribbit" when he walked in late to class. One of his favorite things about when they restored his car, was the frog symbol on the outside of his car door. It symbolizes the best class he could ask for.

Mr. Kermit learned the lesson to never change who he is because something was blamed on him. I can relate to this because sometimes I change who I am. Be like God ( Ephesian 4:20-24). I am reminded of this scripture when I want to change myself.
