Following an input and shared task, the children headed off in groups to apply their new knowledge of safety rules. They worked in groups - supported by an adult - to work out which rule to follow in different scenarios.

The children were very sensible and did an awesome job! 🤩

Today we had some iPad time to apply what we have been learning this half term.

Everybody in Y1 can now log on to a computer!

We’re ready to move on to a new skills.

We will be digitally literate in no time!

Today we worked on typing our names with Capital letters and finger spaces. We also practiced using the delete button when we made mistakes.

Here we are getting to know and practicing using different keyboard keys.

We’re getting really good at logging in independently now, too!

Today we continued word processing with a focus on formatting.

Today we learned that an algorithm is just a set of instructions.

We then made links to day to day life and realised algorithms are all around.

Following a whole class, guided attempt we headed off into small groups to sequence familiar routines to make accurate algorithms for things like washing hands, pouring juice and making sandwiches.

Here we are having a go at giving each other precise instructions/commands. One person acted as a computer scientist while the other was a robot or a computer. We had such fun learning about the importance of precise instructions for computers and how to give them.

Today we celebrated Safer internet day by reviewing our online safety learning. In particulate we considered what voice assistants do and how we stay safe.

Today we used everything we have learned so far to to creat a simple program that caused the Bee-Bot to move backward or forward to the intended place on our grids.

Today we used the Bee-Bots on special grids getting them to move backwards, forwards, left and right to the intended end point. When it went wrong we had to work out why.

We reviewed our learning on programming a robot to go back forward, backward, left and right. Then we created our own programs and when our robots did not finish at the intended spot we had to work out why.

Today we predicted if simple programs would achieve our desired outcome. Then we tested the program and when required debugged it.

We discussed how we might use technology and how we might find information using technology. The children had lots of ideas.

We discussed how these 2 men invented microchip and without them we would n9t have the small and powerful tablets and computers we have today.
