In the Story, it appears that the writer is giving the reader the image that girls mature quicker than boys, this is due to Puberty. This could be proven by Enn (the protagonist) saying that he could not figure the girl who opened the door at the party’s age meaning she looked older than he was. Enn continued to explain why he had began to hate Girls, which is as Kids they start out as girls and boys, going through time at the same speed, then one day there’s a lurch and by then they know more than boys and are even getting their periods

We also see gender stereotype where as Vic states that it is a males responsibility to initiate conversation with a female and to go further and ask for more such as a relationship. It was shown that males are superior because all Vic had to do was show his grin and the girls agreed to everything.

One of the first things the reader picks up when reading the book is the use of language, not only does the language show that the story’s characters are young by using slang such as “s’okay and s’not” but also to show more evidence that the story’s genre is Young Adult Literature. The use of Vulgar is also mostly common in teenagers. The use of slang among youth is usually to fit in amongst peers and to simply follow popular culture because slang evolves or changes from time to time.

Identity

Identity can be defined as selfhood, ego, individuality and so on and this is quite vivid to see in all, if not all the characters in the story. We see Vic who is quite confident because he was sure that his grin could earn him any girl he wants. And shows one of the core qualities of identity which is individuality and needs no assistance to talk to girls. Enn shows selfhood by not saying anything to impress the first girl he met, Wain Wain who identifies herself as a second and who continued to say that she has seen amazing things which she will share with her own kind when she gets home.Enn did not understand her rather offered her a water to change the subject at hand. Enn continues to show this “selfhood” by not trying to answer anything he does not understand, this being the second girl with the “spikey hair” which is really awkward especially considering that he wrapped his hand around her. In contrast however, the story also shows the reader how teenagers are still trying to find themselves as individuals and in society as whole, in terms of women or girls and how they should be treated and so forth. One could say Enn and Vic have different identities because their approaches towards how they meet and talk to girls were different. Enn continued to say that the only girls he got to kiss were his sister's friends but Vic had more experience.

Language

In the short story, we are introduced to teenagers to articulate using the slang language.Vic continued to use words like 'S'okay' instead of 'It's okay' or ' it is okay' and also made use of the word 'S'not like that instead of saying the actual word which 'It's not like that'.Vulgar language is also used because Enn continued to call Vic a 'smooth bastard'.
