We don't have any communities or groups that we work with. We do have campus beautification-each class has a planter that they are responsible for cleaning, weeding, etc. Additionally, we do school-wide clean-up days. This teaches students how to work cooperatively, take responsibility, and how to help our school stay clean and beautiful. We also have a recycling program where water bottles are collected and the money is used for 6th grade science camp. I would like to find ways to include more of the community surrounding our school.

Being a pretty large school Poly contributes in many different ways. They have many food drives, as well as a Poly Bear Bowl where the special needs students play a football game with the student football players. The list goes on but as far as my own personal involvement, I need to do more. The skills of organizing and planning are long lasting. I know Corona at King does "King Remembers" with Vets and the program is phenomenal. The kids and the Vets truly love being a part of the program and look forward to it every year.

At Monroe, we have our gardens, which we are going to have sessions for parents after school to learn how to grow their own veggies..we have a canned food drive run by the 6th graders where we feed one family in each classroom and take boxes to Shelters and the Continuation school. We went to the convalescent home and did an oral history with the residents about Riverside's History. 3rd grade has playground ambassadors with Kinder to teach them rules of the playground. We have a shoes programs where we provide shoes for kids instead of teacher secret Santa, and we had a eye glasses clinic through Lions Club where kids, adults, whoever showed up got RX glasses for FREE. We donate all lost and found unclaimed items to shelters.First graders made placemats and letters to seniors, and 4th grade wrote letters to the troops.

We currently have several clubs such as garden, origami, chess, a large variety of computer sciences, and a newly formed club called "Ignite Your Mind" where students can collaborate with one another about new, innovated, ideas or simply learning about technology from one another. However, we were throwing around the idea of a socratic seminar club so we could get conversations started for who the students would like to help and provide them with reading that can guide them in their journey.
