Adaptions:

Space - If you have limited space, you could only do the "Climb the Rigging" , "Captain's Aboard" and "Man Overboard" activities

Time - If you have limited time, you could do three activities instead of all six, being careful to choose the three activities which would give the children the most benefit

Task - You could add more activities to make the task longer. For example, you could add "Steering the Ship" (children mime steering a ship using a ship wheel) or "Cannonball!" (children have to duck and weave to avoid incoming cannon balls)

Equipment - If you have benches in the hall, you could complete the "Walk the Plank" by getting children to walk along a bench and jump off onto a mat

People - If you have children with SEND, you can modify the activities so that it doesn't require as much movement. For example, if you are teaching a child in a wheelchair, instead of "walk the plank" involving physical movement, you could get the children to mime splashing into the water instead.

Original game- Hot Potato 

Brief description- A game where the pupils will stand in a big circle and will pass around a small ball from person to person around the circle. If somebody doesn’t catch the ‘potato’, they must sit in the centre of the ‘hot potato soup’ (game aimed at ks1/ early ks2) Game stops when the everyone is sat down. 

Adaptations: 

Space- Reduce the circle so children don’t have to run for as long around the circle. 

• Gradually make the circle bigger for additional challenge. 

• Place cones on the ground that children have to avoid whilst running. 

Time- Reduce running time, once the whistle blows all people sat inside the circle get to rejoin the circle.  

Task- Children must pass the ball around very quickly (to avoid getting ‘burnt’) whilst keeping it in the air.  

Equipment- Children will be using a small bean bag or ball to pass around the circle.
