Peralta - period 4 The Purge: Election YearA seemingly unmeaningful movie, “The Purge” captures the image of how cruel America really is. Most horror movies do not project a deeper, but “The purge” includes vital messages that reflect on the society that we are a part of. Per usual, horror movies are bad guys versus good guys with no relevant plot, but this movie gives it a twist.Overall, the purge is an annual event where for twelve hours crimes are completely allowed and no one can say otherwise. On the future streets of Washington , D.C in 2016, Leo Barnes is on the mission to protect the senator, Charlie Roan, who is currently running for president. Senator Roan and Barnes are in fight to keep their lives until the purge nights end because not even government officials are safe on this night.Leo Barnes is portrayed as a hero as he is out to protect the senator. He attempts to keep her safe by begging her to leave her unprotected home to a protected bunk, but nonetheless, Roan doesn’t listen to him. Charlie Roan is currently a runner in the election, but she is only the senator as of now. Roan had her family killed in the first purge, now she is out to get the purge cancelled forever. These two are the most relevant and the vital characters of the plot. They give the plot everything it needs. After watching “The Purge”, I really learned a lot. I especially enjoyed the politicalness brought up. I myself am not a fan of horror movies, but this gave me a twist that I enjoyed. I enjoyed how Roan is actively trying to make a change for the future of the country and stop the purge. Watching “The Purge: Election Year” really gives the viewer a taste of reality. I received the image that poor people and lower class people are treated badly because the purge is intended to attack and feed off poorer people. The themes in this range from gun violence to the wealthy people feeding off the poor to the fundamentalist religious leaders. While watching I noticed how similar it is in the purge where they said “It’s my god given right to purge” to real life where day to day people say “It’s my god given right to own a gun.” Overall, this movie hands the audience a view of reality and this is something we can learn from.I do not recommend this movie to people under sixteen, but yet I still wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who is sixteen. This movie has a deeper meaning behind it than just the typical horror movie where killings happen. I would not recommend it to anyone under sixteen because most are immature and wouldn’t understand the meaning behind it and it would be pointless to watch. The MPAA has rated it R. My final word is that the movie is superb and provides a strong message.I rate the movie a 4 out of five because of the messages. I just am not a big fan of all the killing. Overall, it is great and I recommend it.Jasmine A. Peralta is a junior at Coconut Creek High School. She is currently employed at Beehive Kitchen where she works almost everyday after school. As of now, she does not play any sports, but when younger, she played soccer. She enjoys spending time with her family and bestfriends. She enjoys learning about the medical field and researches about the Neonatology field.

A society under control of a secret organization "Upgrade."
A world where a man lost his wife and become powerless. All he had left was his brain and his mom; Upgrade took place in the future in America. Everything was being controlled by a strong government; even though, the government was strong crimes were still occurred under their noses.
The movie "Upgrade" took place in the future in America. The story is about a man that lost everything according: wife, he became paralyzed, and he couldn't do anything for himself. Main characters are Logan Marshall(Grey Tracey), Melanie Vallejo( Asha Tracey), and Betty Gabriel(Cortez). Grey was powerless but he still wanted vengeance for his wife.
Grey was the most impressive actor out of all of them; his script was well written. All of his parts were well executed, they made his character fearless. The author didn't really do a good job with Asha scripts they were too little, and it would've been more intense. Betty role was really good in the movie but I wished she was more involved in the movie.
I loved a lot of things about the movie, especially when he made a deal with the devil he didn't even realize that. I love how they made the main character powerless but also fearless at the same time. But I hated how they killed his wife in the movie the author should've made it more intense and deep, that would've given the movie a more emotional sense.
The lesson that I learned from that movie not everyone is trustworthy. I believe others would've learned the same thing. It was a clear lesson that's the lesson of the movie.
I would rate the movie young adults. I wouldn't recommend any kids that 15 or under to see that movie, the movie rating is R. The movie was a really good movie but I felt like the author could've made it a little bit better. I would also give the movie a B-.
Finally, his name is Larogue Aldrens Mompoint, he is a junior in Coconut Creek high. He played soccer in the past and he also made the track team, and he's part of a poetry club.

A horror show of a movie, "Slenderman (2018)" creates excitement with great anticipation to the question of when the movie will end. Having recently watched "Slenderman (2018)" I have to say, this movie is horrendously bad. "Slenderman (2018)", will take you on the ride of your life with an obviously CGI monster, terrible acting, and a rushed plot that would even scare the suit off of Slenderman. Its axis point is the "terrifying" Slenderman, a mythological being who feasts on the souls of humans. Sounds terrifying, am I, right? Well, you'd be surprised how one director can change diamonds into dirt by making the horrible decision of focusing on the monster and the situation gets even worse with the fact the monster is horribly animated. Everything from the monsters, lifelessly animated face, to the fog-machined woods, screams "what have I done to deserve this?".
The plot which is supposed to be this movie's main attraction features small-town best friends Hallie, Chloe, Wren, and Katie whom one day decide to conjure up Slenderman- a tall thin, horrifying figure whose face resembles printer paper. Two weeks later, Katie goes missing during a field trip to a historical graveyard. Set one getting Katie back, they soon learn that the urban legend of Slenderman may be all too real.
All the actors did a wonderful job, except for Chloe ( played by Jaz Sinclair) and Hallie ( played by Julia Goldani Telles). Jaz Sinclair's acting was horrible because her character (Chloe) made the dumbest choices, that no rational character would make; Her character was also lifelessly acted out adding a fake "taste" in the mouth of all the spectating audience, and Julia Goldani Telles (Hallie) was just as bad in her acting. Julia Goldani Telles's characters potential wasn't used fully. Hallie saw Slenderman a plethora amount of times, but when Wren told her important information about the monster, Hallie just plays it off as Wren being crazy. This Subtracts from the character building value that Hallie could have potentially. Due to the fact she didn't believe in Slenderman being real, her character never really changed and remain the same old boring, lifeless character since the beginning of the movie. Julia Goladni Telles acted to the best of her abilities, but the character still seemed bland and lifeless in the eyes of the spectators.
I disliked a lot of things about this movie, One of them is how the movie chose to focus on the monster instead of what should've been focused on (The plot). An example of this would be in one scene when the girls are trying to get Katie back from Slenderman and they blindfold themselves so they don't see Slendermans face, but Chloe takes off her blindfold due to her primal fear of being taken, taking away from the plot and focusing on how the monster is going to take her away. This made the story very basic and didn't really give us (The audience) a sense of attachment to any of the girls. In my opinion, to make a great movie, the director should've focused more on the plot instead of the antagonist Slenderman.
However, one lesson I learned from watching this movie is, If something has a legend behind it, don't automatically assume that its fake because all legends lead back to some truth. The characters in Slenderman learned this the hard way.
I would rate this movie a pg-13 movie. The movie is not very graphic or frightening, at all. This movie is a movie you would watch with friends and make fun of how terrible it is. I would not, however, recommend this to any "die-hard" Slenderman fans, because they will be vexed at how bad the movie portrays their favorite series. I will also not recommend this movie to any newcomers to the Slenderman series due to the fact that they'll think all Slenderman movies are just as horrible as this one. My final thoughts on this movie are that it is a horrible movie and should not be watched if you're trying to enjoy a good movie. I will, however, rate this movie a 3 out of 10 stars mainly due to the fact that it isn't the worst movie out there (even though it is unbearable), It is still watchable.
Bradley K.

The intricate movie, ‘Purge’ combines the the thrilling concept of defending for your life with the manifestation of how our government is slowly destroying our society. Majority of movies are designed to entertain you for a couple if hours leaving you without a moral that can relate to everyone's life. Its axis point is the land of opportunities, America, a country composed of 50 state's created in a way that provides a disadvantage to lower class people. There, resembling how our society cannot realize the importance of being a unified nation.

The Purge is based off a wealthy family set in the US in 2020, who were held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge. The Purge depicts a US where all crime impulses are expiated during which all crime is legal for 24 hours. It is a state of affairs whos illogic is practically the point. The main character James Sandin and his family are startled when an intruder brings the gruesome outside world into their house. Mary and their two kids struggle to survive the night.

James Sandin(Ethan Hawke) is the main protagonists in the film. He is the father of Zoey Sandin(Adelaide Kane) and Charles Sandin(Max Burkholder) and the husband of Mary Sandin(Lena Headey). James sandin lives in a gated community where he sells security systems to his neighbors. James is the main protagonists until his death, then Mary picks up the lead character role. All actors were designated the perfect role that ties into their own characteristics

As with all thriller movies, there is a lot of scenes that leave you anticipating what is going to happen next. One of the most enjoyable features I discovered about this movie is that its plot is not like any other movie that has come out. The director did an extraordinary job of coming up with a main idea for the movie that is fresh and creative but also is very entertaining. One of my personal favorites moments is when The Sandins run out of time to give the ‘pig’ to the intruders. This forces the intruders to break into the home, revolting in a frenzy of anxiety and gunfire. This scene is one of my favorites as it portraits suspense by not directly showing when the intruders and the family will come across each others path.

One of the main themes I discovered while watching this movie is that our nations, our government is working against each other rather than working together. The movie is a prime example of the government getting into our private lives which is what they should not be doing. There are way too many guns in our society, and frankly this is what happens with them. Our country is obsessed with violence and the right to protect our violence. Even researchers have found that retaliations against the person who upset us will help us calm down. Today's society doesn't understand how to handle situation with care. They can't comprehend that they can sit down and come up with an agreement to the problem. Instead, they would much rather have a war and be the last man standing

This movie is rated R so in general, anyone over the age of 18 will be able to enjoy this movie. Specifically, older people will enjoy this movie even more as they have experienced life more and can understand the theme the movie has. I would definitely recommend it to anyone's who is interested or is going to study politics in their near future. I wouldn't recommend to people who are easily offended or hurt as this movie is very violent. The MPAA has a R rating on any movie of this franchise. My final word of this movie would be that the movie is incredibly well structured and provides a good meaning behind the story line. I would rate this movie 9 out of 10 stars; The theme just ties everything perfectly

Juan D. Rodriguez is a junior in Coconut Creek High School and is currently not employed. Juan is not currently in any sport although he has been in the track team for multiple years before. Mr.Rodriguez enjoys relaxing at home with his family and biking around the city with his friends. Mr.Rodriguez is also entering the medical program in his school in a couple of months

The new family-friendly animated movie, “Mune: Guardian of the Moon,” by Alex Heboyan and Benoit Philippon introduces — once again — the olden myths, that are now forgotten fables from the past: the legends. “Mune”—the shorten title — is a french animation fueled with adventure and fantasy revolving around nature and its own mythology. The film shows the once belief that there is a Light and Dark side on Earth, separated by Day and Night, that exists due to the guardians who supervise the Sun and Moon. As there is Day and Night or Light and Darkness, there are also heroes and villains. The story of the how the Worlds of the Light and Darkness inhabits together, the first Guardian of the Sun threw a harpoon into the cosmos and roped the Sun to bring light and warmth to all of humanity. Then the Guardian of the Moon lured the Moon to the Land of Darkness for the World of Dreams to provide a balance to the Sun and supply the world with dreams —Apollo and Artemis.

Mune(voiced in French by Michaël Grégorio), a small and frightened forest faun, with the appearance of a blue avatar-like creature, from the Land of Darkness, though thought to being carefree and irresponsible, becomes a guardian at the ceremony that appoints two new guardians. An accident seemed to occur; the heir of the previous Moon guardian is passed over, and the title Guardian of the Moon is granted upon Mune, who gave the impression of being unfitting for such a weighty responsibility. Sohone (French voiced Omar Sy), (muscular and of the Stone People) apprentice of Xolal, the former guardian of the sun, became the sun's protector. When their rival Necross, a corrupted ex-guardian who was exile to the Underworld, seek to alter the course of nature by stealing the Sun, Mune, Sohone and Glim—a young heroine made out of wax who exist at the intersection between both realms (dusk and dawn)—join their mission to restore the balance between day and night.

Joshua J. Ballard(Mune voice in English), displayed the innocent, pure and lionheart attitude of Mune whose character grew to gain the confidence that put out the fires of the underworld, proving himself to those who had doubted him. Nicole Provost(Glim voice in English) who portrayed the heroine and scholarly wax figure, though seemed uptight, Glim portray acts of selflessness helping the two young guardians explore and discover their powers to the protect their stars. Trevor Devall(Sohone voice in English) balance the strength and impatient personality of Sohone with his growth of being noble and modest. And even through seem muscular and mature, he also had a cutesy clumsy side. Davey Grant(Necross voice in English) fit the voice of a villain, someone who felt that they have treated wronged in the prior years and now seek revenge.

Mune steps outside of the hackneyed, spiritless principles that plagues animations in America; However, it follow the cycle of clique endings. All in all, this animation had great colors, unique characters, child-friendly dialogues with mild action and humor. It shows friendship, responsibility, leadership, and redemption. Unlike the popular exhausting storylines with no implied moral, Mune include symbols such as snake describe to be “evil corruptors who find darkness in even the purest of souls.” And using complex lexicons such as incorporating the term“cosmic harpooning” by listing the relationship of astronomy, astrophysics, quantum physics, and calibration—alluding to ancient books and celestial laws. “Mune: Guardian of the Moon” exhibits dialogues containing advanced vocabulary.

Mune storylines is fuel with great morals. Don’t judge a book by its cover; Power is not everything. The Sun and the Moon works in harmony—the Moon cannot shine without the Sun. These lesson relate to the real world as well. Let's take the recent conflicts in the United States of America, illegal residents or non-green card holders are being deported; however these immigrate are those who keep balance between the social classes within the U.S and not only with economy but the culture as well. Without these influences, the United States would not be titled as highly diverse nor secure such claims that no other country has a “wider range of racial, ethnic, and cultural types” than the United States.

The film is family-friendly and fitting for anyone who seek for heartfelt bonds and for those who seek adventure and escapade with sensible use of knowledge and terminology. “Mune: Guardian of the Moon” is fit for those who enjoy science fiction, fantasy, venture and mythologies. And could be a way for teachers to entertain their students to fully understanding the ancient beginning of how modern science of astronomy developed to the use of celestial laws to today’s 12 month calendar and tracking of the moon cycles and eclipses. With a jump over the Moon, the overall scoring for “Mune: Guardian of the Moon” is a 3 out of 5 star rating.

“Room”, a nerve-wracking film depicts the hardships that a mother and her son face and their ordeal as they try to escape a room they have been held captive in for seven years. It reveals the long journey of recovery Joy Newsome (the mother) must endure and how it affects everyone around her. This film conveys a powerful message of the bond between mother and son and how their limits are tested throughout their life.

The film starts off with Joy Newsome and her now 5-year-old son getting ready to make him a cake in their home otherwise known as “Room”. Throughout the film, Joy reveals how it is that she came to be in trapped in Room for seven years. As she realizes that she and her son might spend the rest of their days there, she fabricates a devious plan to escape - a plan in which her son is the key to flee the room. While the escape is a central part of the movie, the movie focuses more on the recovery after the escape. Newsome and her son must undergo a series of physical and psychological challenges after so many years of abuse which will put to test their relationship.

The characters Joy Newsome - played by Brie Larson - and Jack - played by Jacob Tremblay - did an astounding performance. Brie Larson managed to perfectly portray the pain felt by Joy after having her innocence ripped away from her along with seven years of her life. Jacob Tremblay acting shocked me because he showed much talent considering he was only seven years old when the movie was made. Both of them had very plausible performances.

What is most alluring about this film is that it is very rare, tragic and realistic. Everything that happens in it is something that could have and most likely would have happened if a situation like this occurred in real life. It shows even the ugliest parts of the recovery, like when Joy attempted against her own life or when Newsome’s father wouldn’t accept her son, his own grandchild, because Jack was a product of rape. However, I didn’t like how the movie ended; it didn’t have a proper conclusion to Joy’s and Jack’s story which leaves it open to interpretation.

The main theme of “Room” is the powerful bond between mother and son. Viewers can see how their relationship develops and changes throughout the sequence of several events. It’s also about the journey of recovery; people can learn that recovery is not quick and easy and it doesn’t happen overnight. Patience with ourselves and the people around us is vital when passing through a difficult time in our lives.

This movie would appeal to anyone who likes angst films, especially ones that have to do with tragedy and loss. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone with traumas having to do with rape or suicide since this movie has scenes with both of these things which could trigger something so viewer discretion is advised. This film is definitely Rated R and is overall an amazing movie with an important subliminal message (10/10).

Melanie Minotta is a junior in high school. She is not currently playing any sports and she enjoys to spend time with her family and friends. She aspires to be a nurse and will be starting to train for it in November.

A wrinkle on the universe's face

The highly anticipated film by director Ava Duvernay, set to be released in March 2018 is called " A wrinkle in time". Two days ago I had the honor of watching the star-studded movie, " A wrinkle in time". A wrinkle in time is a disney movie that teaches viewers about confident, self-love and much more while taking you on a wonder-filled adventure. The film also helps viewers see the perspective of a child going through a life-altering change, but having help along the journey from the unexpected.
     The film starts out with
a young girl on the search for her missing father. The main character, Meg Murry is a troubled child with a genius younger brother. Both of her parents were well-known scientists. The film is set in the far future where anything is possible. In the film we have three mystical beings that come to Meg's aid. We also see Meg make her first and only friend named Calvin O'Keefe who is a main part of the story.
In the film we get to see many well-known people in the industry work their magic. Celebrities such as Mindy Kaling, actress Resse Witherspoon and famous talk show host and actress Oprah Winfrey. We also see new comers such as Storm Reid who plays Meg Murry, Deric Mccable who plays the little brother and Levi Miller who plays the main character's friend. The main character played by Storm Reid did a fantastic job on her first big role along with her co-stars. All except Mrs. Who played by the infamous Mindy Kaling who has her own show. Personally I didn't care for her character because she was practically useless. She didn't have much lines and she didn't really help serve a purpose in helping Meg along her journey.
Parts of the movie I really enjoyed were when Meg finally stood up to her bully. When this had finally happened it teaches the audience to not let your bully get the best of you and to stand up for yourself. Another favorite of mine is when Meg finally reunited with her father. When face to face with her father all the pain and agony that she had faced all those years had seem to vanish. Overall this movie had a lot of great moments.
This movie teaches viewers about confident, bravery, the value of family and friendship. With the help of her friends the main character learns to love and appreciate her flaws. Things that she would think of as negatives, the three witches would help her see the good in them. Even when Meg was going through a hard time, her brother would still find a way to comfort her. Through many tough events Meg would put on a brave face and push on.
This movie is marketed towards children but can be enjoyed by any age group. The message this movie has can be taught to anyone no matter the lifestyle the person may have. But with the animation style most may say this is for kids. I would say this movie should be rated PG. The reason for this is because there is a kissing scene , which some parents may not want their children to see. Overall I would give this movie a B+.

But in this movie “Brotherly Love” it portrays a rendering lifestyle of an urban living family, that has an interesting plot twist to it. It shows the importance of family, love and most important it teaches you life lessons.

The plot takes place in Philadelphia where three siblings June, Jackie, and Sergio all face life changing decisions and the life on the streets; all trying to make something good of themselves. Eric D. Hall who plays Sergio, a star basketball player who faces the tough life of the streets and early fame. Meanwhile his brother June acted by Cory Hardrict, lost his basketball dreams to the streets providing for his family after their father died. And there’s Jackie, their sister who is played by Keke Palmer, who wants to pursue her dreams in music but slowly gets sidetracked with love. This movie will play with all your emotions; leaving you crying, laughing and an ending you never saw coming. But you’ll have to watch the movie to find out. (sorry not sorry)

The actors in the movie were outstanding and really bought the movie to life. They really went along with the script by allowing themselves to be in the characters shoes. I feel like everyone did a great job playing their parts. There’s nothing I didn’t like about this movie; I truly love everything about it.

Every movie has a lesson or a message behind it. In “Brotherly Love” the lesson/message behind it is to never give up on your dreams no matter how hard life gets. Perfect example would be Sergio, he battled with the life on the streets, faced grief, and lost the people he loves most. But that did not stop him from reaching his goals of becoming a famous basketball player. He really outdid himself making his family proud, especially his brother June who had lost his opportunity to become a star player.

The audience I would most likely recommend this movie to is the youth ages 18 and up because in a society like this the youth tend to give up so easily on their dreams, especially growing up in an urban lifestyle, that was shown in the movie. This will not only teach them that to never give up but also that they don’t always have to give in into the street life. That they can be something better life if they dream big and put their pride and motivation into it. This movie is rated R, so I wouldn’t recommend it to ages under 18 because it has violence, secular words and adult scenes. But as stated before almost anyone can learn and get inspired by watching this movie. Overall this movie was fantastic, and I highly recommend it. I give this movie five stars!

Edwiana Charlot is a 16-year-old high school junior who attends Coconut Creek High. She is currently unemployed but is looking forward for a part time job. Edwiana is very passionate in helping others and comforting others with their problems, that’s why she wants to major in Mental Health Counseling. She wants to go to college and earn her Ph.D. in Mental Health counseling, so she can work with the youth dealing with depression, anxiety, etc. She hopes to make a difference in this world because mental illness is a serious issue in our society today and wants people to know mental illness is no joke

Director: Jamal Hill

Writers: Jamal Hill

Casting: Keke Palmer, Cory Hardrict, Quincy Brown, Eric D.

“47 Meters Down” Movie Will Leave You Gasping For Air

The movie “47 Meters Down” is an intriguing action-pack thriller will literally have you on the edge of your seat. This movie contains terrifying sharks and the Dangers of the Pacific Ocean. “47 Meters Down” also warns you about the dangers of cage diving. Make sure when you watch this movie, you pay attention to every detail because every detail counts.

“47 Meters Down” is about two sisters going on a trip to Mexico. While in Mexico, they meet these two young men that convince them to go cage diving with sharks. While cage diving, the rope attach to the boat suddenly loosens causing the cage to drop 47 meters down into the Pacific Ocean, thus causing leaving the two sisters terrified. The sisters then try to come up with a plan to somehow contact the cage diving instructors by swimming up to find a suitable signal. In the mist on swimming, the girls have to stay on alert about the sharks roaming the ocean, and they are slowly running out of air.

Actress Claire Holt (Kate) portrayed herself in the movie “47 Meters Down” as the more brave and courageous sister during this underwater voyage. While on the other hand actress Mandy Moore (Lisa), is the more fearful sister and has a panic attack underwater causing her to lose air more quickly. Overall both actresses did a wonderful job at playing their roles in the movie “47 Meters Down”. Neither actress gave you dull emotion or actions. You can tell both actresses gave it their all in this movie.

What I personally liked in this movie is how the sharks looked real instead of animated. When you watch movies that contain sharks, most of the time the sharks look animated and artificial. I liked that the actresses weren’t in the cage the whole time in the movie. They portrayed that they were determined to find a way and get help, instead of just sitting in the cage being petrified of the sharks and not helping themselves. What I also loved about this movie is the unexpected ending. The ending will have you shocked and a bit confused.

The lesson I personally learned from the movie “47 Meters Down” is to never give up and don’t panic underwater because it will make your situation worse than it already is. The message that the writer of this movie is trying to convey is that women in this society are usually portrayed as being weak and fragile. So, the writer used women in this situation to show that women can also defend and fight for themselves, not just men. What other people will learn from this movie is how to handle yourself in underwater situations and how to be determined and don’t fold under pressure.

The group of people who would like this movie are people who like thriller or horror movies. This movie is rated PG-13 so, if you are 13 and older you can indeed watch this movie. Overall this film was amazing. This movie literally had me out of my seat while I was at the movie theaters last year when it came out. I would give the movie “47 Meters Down” a ⅘ because the ending left me a little annoyed.

The Uncliched “Everything, Everything”

The movie “Everything, Everything” went to theaters on May 19, 2017, and I went with it. Having the cliche storyline of teenage love, its unique beauty and message highly influenced my opinion of it. Its incorporation of the themes of love, betrayal, adversity, and freedom in an unusual style allows this movie to seep into the heart of the viewer, both young and old. Even my heart was touched, leading me to write this review.

Throughout the runtime of 96 minutes, the picture centers around the life of Madeline, the female protagonist and sufferer of a rare disease. Her whole life has been confined within her home; her air supply has been thoroughly purified to ensure her survival. All her 18 years of life she’s been locked away from the outside world, with the only human interaction coming from her mother, her nurse, and occasionally her teacher. Madeline’s love interest is then introduced as Olly, her new neighbor. Their relationship quickly blossoms from a friendship to romance. As the story progresses, Madeline begins to question her surroundings and life; she then embarks on a journey of self discovery with Olly to find herself.

Being a movie adaptation of an award winning book, Nicola Yoon’s “Everything Everything” was given a drastic makeover when it came to the characters. I was quite disappointed with the casting, since I did not get my half-black, half-asian Madeline, my Japanese overprotective Dr.Whittier, my stout nurse Carla, and most of all, my Olly with eyes that are supposed to be as blue as the Atlantic Ocean. All these factors made the book into what it is: a diverse love story. In spite of this, director Stella Meghie’s selection of Amandla Stenberg, Nick Robinson, and Anika Noni Rose did make a home-run. Their respective performances as Madeline, Olly, and Dr. Whittier were enough to make watching this film worthwhile.

As a reader of the book, I was quite knowledgeable about the Yoon’s style, and the visuals she used to convey the main characters interactions via text. In the movie, it was surprising to see how they did this to create the same effect. I loved that the directors showed Olly and Madelines conversations in settings that were distinct to her personality. For example, one conversation took place in a space like area from her imagination; this signified Madeline’s love for the galaxy and astronauts. Their choice to go this route shows that they stayed true to the author’s choices.

This story primarily centers around the theme of freedom. It showed me that I should never settle for less, and try to broaden my horizons. It also showed me that doing something out of your comfort zone can lead to extraordinary results. The main female protagonist believed that she could do nothing about her sickness. By making a leap of faith and going into the real world, she was liberated from her highly overprotective mother. While exploring the world for herself, she discovered something that changed her life forever: the truth. She faced a foreign world head on, and took her own path. Her decision to do this made her gain a new life, a free life.

Young adults would be the main demographic for this film, as its appeal to the pathos of young love would be most relatable to them. I would recommend this to my peers and siblings, because it would be an amusing experience to watch it with them. Its MPAA rating of PG-13 is well deserved, as there are some scenes that are not appropriate for lower ages. All in all, this watching movie was an enjoyable experience. I would give this an overall rating of 7.8 out of ten.

Ariana Williams is a 16 year old girl, living in Margate, Florida. She was born and raised in St. Catherine, Jamaica. Ariana migrated to the United States in 2014, and has been living there for four years. She attends Coconut Creek High, and participates in their Spanish National Honors Society. She loves reading, and her favorite novels are from the Nancy Drew series. She aspires to graduate from high school and University, and become a dentist.

Review: Living a life "Beyond the Lights"

“Beyond the Lights” had my heart beating 100 miles per hour recently because of how cute it was! When watching this movie I got butterflies in my stomach and when it was done it made me recognize my self worth .This movie had a lot of drama because of how the main character Noni was living, but despite all of that there were many romantic scenes that were undeniably cute.

South London 1998 was when Noni Jean (GuGu Mbatha-Raw) first performed in front of a crowd at a talent show. She sang BlackBird by Nina Simone and got second place which her overbearing stage mother Macy Jean (Minnie Driver) shamed her about and made her drop the trophy. Noni had been receiving emotional abuse from her mother growing up. Since her mother didn’t get the fame and the fortune herself she started to live through her daughter who had just that. Nina was so overwhelmed that she was ready to end her life by jumping off a balcony but was unsuccessful because to the rescue came Kaz (Nate Parker) a police officer who was guarding her hotel door. He grabs her arm and convinces her to keep on living by saying “I see you”. Those three words really spoke to Noni because she felt like no one understood her and she desperately wanted someone to. Ever since that day Noni and kaz were getting pushed closer and closer together like it was destiny. Although they had some difficulties, like all relationships, they both persevered which made the story even cuter.

Mbatha-Raw had the role of Noni Jean who was an artist, insecure, sensitive, wayward. Nate Parker had the role of Kaz who was Virile, ambitious, gentlemanly, and a romantic. When watching the movie you can tell that both actors knew how to bring the characters to life. They had chemistry, so much chemistry that it looked like they would date as Nate and Mbatha-Raw not just Kaz and Noni.

There were so many enjoyable scenes in “Beyond the Lights” and since its a romantic movie most of the best scenes were romantic. The attempted suicide had to be one of the best scenes in the movie despite the facy that Noni wanted to kill herself. It started off with Kaz rushing to the balcony where he found Noni sitting on the railing getting ready to jump of and when she does kaz quickly grabs her arm and she grabs his back. At this point Noni is dangling between the 12th floor and hard, cold pavement. Now their looking at each other and Kaz is slowly but surely convincing Noni to keep on living and with these three words “I see you” he was successful. The scene that I didn't enjoy was when she was performing with her former boyfriend on stage he started pushing her ruffly and being rude to her because she broke up with him, it's sad to see boys or men act out because they can’t take rejection.

The lesson I got from this film and what I think others will get from it is that self worth is more important than anything else. Mbatha-Raw said it best “If you’re trading your self-worth for an image of sexuality and something that your think is going to be commercial and sell, I just don't think those are very healthy messages for young women today and I think that people often believe the fantasy.”

The group of people that would like this movie are people who like romance and drama. I would recommend this movie to anyone trying to get famous and does anything, even things out of their character to get there. I wouldn’t recommend this movie to anyone who doesn't like romance movies then they’ll just be disgusted, annoyed or bored. The MPAA on “Beyond the Lights” is PG-13, this movie was a good movie and i’ll watch it again with a friend or family member.

                                                           MOVIE SCORE

                                                                      A

                                                   SHORT BIBLIOGRAPHY

Lohggie Jean is 16 years old girl who lives in Margate Florida.

Destiny Alexander

Dr. Johnson-Coote

AP Language and Composition

04 September 2018

                                    “Bee Movie” Review

In 2007, the new movie everyone was buzzing about is called “Bee Movie”. The “Bee Movie” is an animated cartoon for children. This movie is very much entertaining as it is educating. It focuses on a bees busy life after two days of birth, but with a conflict twist. A been not wanting to work as a bee should find himself in court talking to the judge. This be devastatingly changes lives of humans, plants, and bees for about 2 to 3 weeks.

After 40 hours of schooling, Barry is now graduating from college and now ready to work in honey as his ancestors and his friends have or are doing, but he finds work in the honey hive is torturing and boring to commit to— outside the hive is where he wanted to work. Ken, Barry’s best friend, was staggered at this news because it’s wildly dangerous for any insect; it’s like going to war for the survival of one’s species. Nevertheless, Barry still went outside the bee hive for exploration of— what seems like outer space to them— the outside world. The first day of him being out the hive, he meets a human named Vanessa, who he is truly interested in as if Cupid shot him with an arrow. As he spends the day touring with Vanessa, he finds hundreds of honey on the shelf of a grocery store and he flips at the fact of it being stolen from bees and sold to humans without any profit for the bees. Barry takes matters into his own hands and goes on an investigation. Barry takes pictures of the abuse that bees get from humans, takes it to court, wins his case, and bans humans from taking honey. But this was a bad turn into the shadows, as flowers die without bees pollinating it… leaving earth grey— because since bees get all their Honey back there’s no need for them to work and get honey and which pollinating flowers was involved in that process. Bees and humans come to a realization that plants need bees and B’s need plants in order for a balance for two happy lives and resolved everything with an agreement.

Now, Jerry Seinfeld, voice of Barry, had a perfect tone for reaction of surprises and turns that the movie took. Vanessa, a.k.a Renée Zellweger played the perfect personality for a woman who is flirtatious, understanding, and sympathetic. And Patrick Warburton (Ken) did a great job at hesitating about decisions being made and quickly changing his mood in a split second.

From this movie, I learned not to fluctuate with nature. Nature, insects, and wildlife all balances each other out and messing with one factor of the weight can cause a big change and disaster. Other people should find the same morals as I did as it was the main theme of the movie.

The “Bee Movie” incorporates real life situations in an entertaining way instead of it being like one of those nature channels on the TV that everyone skips. The movie catches little kids’ attentions making them wanting to watch it leading to hour and 45 minutes of learning about how bees work and benefit the natural world.

As said previously, “Bee Movie” Will more likely catch the attention of kids from ages 1 to 7. It’s a jolly, colorful, and adventurous movie that toddlers will sit down to watch. This movie is PG which is appropriate for any age group to watch— it’s great for family movie night. I give this movie and an A for its humorous and educating performance. Destiny is a junior in the high school of Coconut Creek. She such a girly girl and loves to laugh. Her dream is to become an actress and a model, but in case plan a doesn’t work out she has Plan B— becoming a nurse. Destiny is brilliant and qualifies for anything she wants to be.
