Growth Mindset BRI

In the video, Kobe Bryant explained that for the last twenty years, he was disciplined the entire time. It is seeing your weakness and strengths. He knew that his hands were big, but not huge, so he had to work to make sure his hands be able to palm the ball, he was quick, but not the fastest. He knew that to get to the level he wanted, he had to study more than others and work harder. When Kobe was going to practice, he switch his mindset or mode. " ..that was my mental switch". He put himself into a mindset where he would try and "get over himself" and realize why a shot did not go in. He realized, when he played in highschool, they had a week between games, however in the NBA it was back-to back to games. He new he did not have the legs. Instead of seeing that he is a failure and quitting, he saw what he needed to fix and he said, "Well the reason why I shot air balls was because my legs were't there. I go, well next year, they'll be there" "He saw that every shot was on line, but it was short. Instead of giving up, he worked harder.
Instead of giving up when something gets hard, I'm going to do what Kobe did, and have a 'mental switch'. There is time to have fun, there is a time to do academic work, and there is a time to do athletic work. Each mind space is different, but similar all the same. For athletics, I already have a growth mindset, but for academics, I is more fixed. I'm going to implement what Kobe was saying by trying to mirror my academic 'mental space' and my athletic 'mental space'. I have started asking what I am doing wrong, and what I can improve, instead of giving up, and I am no longer afraid to ask questions.
- Bri Hoskinson
Motiversity.(2019, September 19). THE MINDSET OF A WINNER [Video}.

In the video former NBA coach Phil Jackson explains how he taught the players mindfulness in order to help them with the mental part of the game. He explained how during the game if things may not be going your way that using time on the bench to reset themselves. I think this information is useful because as a pitcher in baseball things do not always go as planned so it is important to try and not let it get to my head so using mindfulness would be helpful with that. It is also important because it is a lot harder to focus and preform well if you are distracted by things that can not be controlled so being able to reset yourself and focus on things that can be controlled there will be a greater chance at success. I also thinks this will be useful for school in order to focus on things I need to get done and not be overwhelmed if there are a lot of things to do. If I am able to collect my thoughts and gather myself I will be able to complete what needs to get done instead of being distracted by a large amount of assignments as a whole.
OWN.(2013,June 16)

How NBA Coach Phil Jackson Taught His Teams Mindfulness | SuperSoul Sunday | Oprah Winfrey Network.
Finding Humor

What makes us more intelligent than other mammals is our ability to not only have the information, but how to act on it once we have it. Finding humor in a situation allows them to move past a situation, and most people cope with humor. When people find humor in something instead of seeing themselves as a failure, they see a joke, and allow them selves to not set stuck in that spot. Not only does it allow you to move past that event, it allows you to maintain a positive mind, and that is important for those who want to have a growth mindset. Costa, A. L. (n.d.).
Metacognition Skills

Reflecting on Kobe Bryant and how he lived his legacy, I can say that some aspects of it dealt with the metacognition skills he had. Kobe Bryant trained himself to be better to become better and he did that with patience and maturity. In the video it shows some clips taken from Kobe Bryant's life he gives motivation and explains why he does what he does and how he became that person. Kobe Bryant touched the heart of many just by his kind words. The video shows what great of a person he was and how he motivated others to become better. Hard work and motivation was what got him to where he wanted to be. He practiced out of practice and changed his mind to become better everyday. This was called the Mamba Mentality he told himself to get better everyday, and that's what he did. I could use this in my daily life both in my sport and out of it. I can change my mind and change my character all my focusing more on who I want to be rather then who I'm not. I have to focus less on the negative and more on the positive and motivate myself because when nobody is there the only person I can rely on is myself. This can really make a big impact on my life and who I am as a person. I plan on doing this daily because i want to be able to look back at my life and the change I made and be proud.

Kobe Bryant | Motivation, Inspiration & Life Advice. Cristiano's mentality is that he is the best player in the world, so he always puts in the work, effort, and dedication to stay at the top.

the way I can use this inside and outside of class is I can look for the long term reward that I will get once I finish school. for example I can get a nice job or start my own business in cyber security and with that ill be able to help my family. but ill have to remind myself to put in the work now even tho ill have to sacrifice hanging out with friends and going out, it will pay off in the end because I won't have to work as much and I will have the time and money to do what I want. but I just have to have a growth mindset even though there will be setbacks I will have to work through and stay responsible so I can accomplish my goals in life.
