Designing a Pinecone Toy – Creative Nature Activity
In this hands-on activity, children discovered the joy of transforming simple natural elements into charming toys. Fir cone and plasticine toy

A fir cone will represent the body and "spines" of the hedgehog. Take a piece of plasticine and mold a sphere for the head. Attach the head to the wider base of the cone.

From plasticine of a different color, mold and add the eyes, nose and ears. You can mold two small pieces for the legs or paws, which will be attached to the scales of the cone. It is a handmade, unique and ecological toy!

Pinecone Toy Cream

These nutritious, natural materials were used to create adorable pinecone toys. The methods used included pinecones, colorful pieces of felt or foam, wiggle rods, cardboard circles (for the face), dry branches and leaves, string, and knots.

First, we cut out circles from cardboard and painted them to create the face, then glued the eyes on. We also used pinecones as bodies and added felt pieces to the pinecones to form arms and ears. We glued dry branches to the legs and decorated some accessories with leaves. Finally, we secured all the pieces together to complete our fun and creative natural toys.

Winter Gnome/Elf

Materials used:

❄️pinecones

❄️red A4 cardboard

❄️pink pom-poms

❄️white or silver acrylic paint

❄️paintbrush

❄️glue

❄️scissors

Working steps:

1. Choose a pinecone of a suitable size.

2. Paint the pinecone with white or silver paint to create a snow effect. Let it dry.

3. From the red A4 cardboard, cut out a semicircle and roll it into a cone – this will be the gnome’s hat.

4. Glue the hat onto the top of the pinecone.

5. Glue the pink pom-pom under the edge of the hat to represent the nose.

6. Leave the toy to dry. At the end, it can be used as a winter decoration or a themed toy.

This activity develops creativity, fine motor skills, and hand–eye coordination, and is suitable for kindergarten children. 🎄✨

The materials used for the pine wood toys were as follows: pine/fir cones; plush wire for the little angel's scarf; wooden beads that represented the head and on which the children drew the angel's eyes, mouth, nose with a marker; the wings were made from felt fabric; and the little hats were made from wool. It was an activity enjoyed by the preschoolers!!!
