Education is stressful, authoritarian, brutally competitive, and meritocratic.  Ranked 22nd out of 50 countries  in the 2018 Ranking of National Higher Education Systems.
Korea’s Confucian-influenced system has also been criticized for relying too much on repetetive memorization. In 2017 there was a petition to ease college admission tests and reduce school fees.
