I am choosing to take the Native American woman Sacagawea. She knows the land that we are exploring very well and has lived around here since she a kid. Also she can help us translate with other native groups along with her husband. Also she can make us look peaceful to other Natives and not like a war party wanting to fight.

She originally came from present day Idaho, until the Hidatsa raided her tribe the Shoshone and took her away. So when we go there she would know the land very well. Also when we wanted to find the Shoshone to trade horses with them she and her husband could translate for us. This would make her a very valuable asset to us because we would need to translate with other natives if we wanted to trade. Also we would have to find our way throughout the unknown land which would be very hard without her.

One plant the corps of discovery discovered was a type of tree. This tree had interesting looking leaves that were pointy. This was probably interesting to the corps of discovery because back home the leaves weren’t shaped like this. Also this tree contained a sticky sap they called maple. So the tree was called a Bigleaf Maple tree. This tree would be helpful to the American people by they could cut down these trees and use the wood for building things. Also they could collect the maple sap from the tree and sell it.

One of the animals that the corps of discovery discovered was a type of fish. This was a strange looking fish to the corps of discovery, one they hadn’t seen before. It had whiskers on it face and big mouth with sharp fins. This fish was probably interesting to the corps of discovery because it was not how thought of a fish. This one sort of resembled a cat. This fish would help benefit the lives of the American people because now they would be able to fish for catfish to eat. Most people today like to eat catfish because it tastes good.

One Native American tribe that Lewis and Clark encountered on their journey were the Chinook. The tribe lived Northwest along the banks of the Columbia River and the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The Chinooks were superb canoe builders and navigators, masterful traders, skillful fishermen and planters. They lived in large wooden plank houses as well. The tribe was friendly with the corps at first giving them gifts and trading with them. The corps became weary as members of tribe began to slyly steal some of their goods. Because of this Lewis and Clark decided to not stay the winter with them but with another tribe. They still traded with the Chinook until one day they stole some more and Lewis and Clark searched their village and took the goods back and left to go back to the Nez Perces.
