This activity encourages creativity by pushing the boundaries of conventional thought and exploring innovative solutions. It enhances problem-solving skills by challenging you to think about the practicality and implications of each method. Additionally, it fosters critical evaluation, requiring you to assess the feasibility, safety, and ethical considerations of each approach. Ultimately, this exercise is about expanding cognitive abilities and enhancing creative and critical thinking, rather than the literal act itself.

pitch

The purpose of this activity is to be creative in the short period of time received. The products that were produced were a paper hat, that turned into a bag and a upside down chatterbox that could be used to hold sunscreen. A change that we had was that we had not a lot of sticky tape unfortunately. In the future, We would fold the paper instead of taping it consuming all the materials. We put our products up for sale for 99 cents as it was quick and easy to buy as well as it captures the audience attention with the significantly low price.

Early Spin Off Reflection

Our spin-off project focused on addressing the issue of tree canopy coverage by proposing the solution of planting more trees. This will be done using a drone to spray water and drop down biodegradable seed pods. As shown, it is required for me to use my acting creatively element. Initially, we collaborated with another group to exchange feedback, which provided valuable insights and different perspectives on our approach. This collaboration highlighted the importance of community involvement in environmental projects.

additionally, we did the SCAMPER method to brainstorm three innovative solutions to enhance tree canopies. This creative technique allowed us to explore various possibilities, such as substituting traditional tree species with those more suited to Adelaide's climate, combining tree planting with urban design, and people can do a volunteering day (daycare).

To further refine our project, we developed a 10-question survey for our class. The survey included specific questions, such as identifying areas in Adelaide that require more shade. This step was crucial in understanding other peoples views/opinions and prioritizing areas for intervention. Overall, the project underscored the significance of collaboration, creativity. The use of the empathy map help evolve our idea because it gave us new ideas though collaboration and communication. It also helped us gain an understanding of different perspectives, which was due to the empathy template. The new insights I have uncovered in this process is making our issue long term, and breaking the problem down into smaller parts to find the relevance of the proposed solution. In the future lessons together with my team, I need to focus on hearing other peoples point of views and attempting to include everyone's ideas in some sort of way even if it means modifying them. We are currently experiencing some barriers such as group members being away on the days when we are brainstorming for an issue/solution. This is very challenging as we all need to pitch into the idea and ensure that everyone has a clear understanding of what is happening. Our next steps are to begin writing the script and then starting to film.

Overall, I am very proud of completing my spin off project in a group with Milla, and Darcey as I had some challenges along the way regarding my group being away. Towards the end of the due date, my entire group was away on the ski trip leading me to do the editing. This put pressure on me however I used a tool called cap-cut which is a very simple and efficient editing tool. We had our assignment up to a high standard by incorporating persuasive techniques such as simile, exaggeration, and propaganda to ensure our video will persuade the Unley council. For example we mentioned a simile "Its like having a giant eco friendly air conditioner" Our target audience is to the Unley council but also to the young people who go to school and struggle to get shade. We added transitions and music in our video as well to engage the audience and to keep their attention across the whole video. To reflect back on the positives, our group did really well at writing a well structured script as well as filming the video in spots that had trees in the background, this was done intentionally. If we got given this opportunity again, we would focus more time on the script and less time filming outside, as this soaked up class time. I would also add a microphone when editing to ensure that it is very clear and audible. Engaging in conversation with my group was essential in completing this task because we all needed to pitch in ideas for the script in order to get everyone's solutions for the tree canopy issue. In terms of improving our collaboration, establishing clear roles and responsibilities before we start the task would have helped significantly. The skills I gained from the spin off project was problem solving, and being very persuasive to our target audience. The most successful part of our final informercial was having good time management and being able to get our video to quite a high standard with the editing. For example, there was one video where the breeze was overpowering, for the sound, so I added subtitles to ensure the message was being conveyed. I learnt that adding images on the video would have been very useful to the overall outcome, as it makes it more engaging. I also discovered that adding some other challenges that could occur in the video itself would have made the video even better. Playing music in the background would help also.

When doing the redesign partners lunch activity, my partner Milla mentioned that she struggles to wake up for her alarm in the morning affecting her lunch breaks. I thought critically about some solutions to her issue such as having a physical alarm, or having her alarm on the other side of the room so she has to get out of bed to turn it off. I realized that this activity is not just a personal challenge, it is about using my critical thinking and problem solving. It taught me that addressing everyday struggles, require deeper thinking and can build teamwork skills. Supporting her and finding a solution will help me in the upcoming project, Spin Off.

In week 10. we had to brainstorm 50 ideas in 5 minutes. This task was very useful in creating unique ideas as the more ideas we came up with, the more unusual they would become. After doing that task, we moved onto doing How, Now, Wow matrix, as seen above in the image. This image allows us to collaborate/elaborate all of our ideas and engage with one another. Figuring out which ideas are most suitable compared to the ones that are very basic.

Market research was vital in this assignment as we needed statistics to shape our idea. For example, we were thinking of creating an app for healthy eating however when we researched the current apps, we realized that it was to common and basic. Instead of ruling that idea completely out, we modified it to become a workshop.

As you can see below, our research was very in depth which will be a positive factor later on.

Sources for information:

https://www.health.gov.au/topics/food-and-nutrition/what-were-doing

https://www.aihw.gov.au/reports/food-nutrition/poor-diet/contents/about

https://www.unisa.edu.au/media-centre/Releases/2025/fast-food-screens-and-no-greens-a-recipe-for-teen-health-trouble/

https://www.aihw.gov.au/reports/food-nutrition/diet

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0195666323024960

https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/australians-choosing-foods-contibute-to-disease-why/1j5d3mbsx#:~:text=Just%20under%20one%20in%2020,waste%20are%20generated%20each%20year.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7452447/

These are the some of the websites used in order to come up wiht 2 solutions.

When making the healthy menu, we compared the Rory's school lunches canteen to our idea and research how we can lower these profits but still have enough profit to make an income. We would be paying the staff, and food. However the school would pay for the electricity and water bills.

Today we were rehearsing our lines in readiness for the expo on Tuesday next week. We collaboratively decided to print our lines and differ from our learning goal. We were worried about loosing our script however we overcame this by communicating with group members and for Clara to keep all scripts until Monday next week where we will regroup and rehearse again. If loosing the piece of paper does occur, we will have to re-print everything contributing to paper wastage. We will ensure our script is memorized before next week to give us the best chance to make an engaging presentation. We have Q-cards instead of a large piece of paper each. We were are ready to read our long pitch incase we get picked too.

INNOV8 Reflection - after presenting

As you can see we this is our final outcome from the INNOV8 expo which took lots of planning and preparation. We were very successful during the process as we communicated in who was doing what roles for example one of us organized the banana bread protein balls. We came across a challenge just before we were about to present - no tongs to handle protein balls to parents and students. We overcame this by all pitching in some money and for one group member to quickly go to the supermarket to purchase a 4 pack of tongs and napkins. We had to pitch our elevate script which was 40 seconds long meaning i had a couple of sentences to memorize. This is to to give our teachers and judges a quick snapshot of what our idea is and how we would make it happen. We were asked many questions during this time for example - "how would we manage the cost and profit?" We did communicate about this beforehand which meant we were prepared for questions like these. One group member would answer the question at the best of their ability and if I or someone else felt the need to add on to their answer we would do so accordingly. By the end of the night, we got told that we made it into the top 3. We had our long pitch all prepared which we all collaborated on in the lessons during the term. We quickly rehearsed our pitch and made some adjustments based on what questions the judges asked us, to ensure we are meeting all requirements in detail. We printed A3 sheets of paper to ensure everyone can read our menu, logo, and key information. We had brochures, business cards and the ingredients of the protein balls on the table we were presenting at. We had 2 ingredients lists, 1 of a typical protein bar from the shops and a home made protein ball. We elaborated on this to our audience and said that there are many chemicals in protein bars from the shops compared to a protein ball with whole foods. As you can see we committed to purpose by preparing 2 different slide shows that we put on auto play whilst presenting so we didn't have to worry about physically changing the slides

Expo final reflection

From completing this expo with Sara, Clara, Sophia and I, I developed my teamwork and communication skills while working in a group to create a healthy canteen brand called Green and Go. I learned how to combine ideas from different people who have different opinions and how to use some ideas from each person instead of ruling an idea out. I researched different canteens which allowed us to make a menu based off of other prices on trusted websites. I became more confident with sharing ideas to my group members, as usually I would not want to say the 'wrong' thing. When researching healthy food options, it helped me have a greater understanding of nutritious foods and the 5 food groups. For example, we researched a typical Woolworths protein bar which had many chemicals in it. Working through challenges such as absent group members taught me how to be persistent and how to adjust our planning when things don't go to plan. The skills I developed along the way is

teamwork and collaboration

time management and organization

research and analysis

design and branding skills

communication and presentation

At the start of this course, I thought that just finding a solution to our problem was the main focus to this task. However this is not the case. Through the course, there was so much research involved, preparing slides, evidence, and refining ideas. I now realize how much effort and thinking is required to create a price for a piece of food. INNOV8 helped me develop the 5cs: communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and creativity. I improved my communication by telling my group members my ideas in a clear way. We all collaborated as a group by sharing responsibilities and roles within the group for example, someone would be in charge of doing slides 1 and 5, I would be in charge of 2 and 8 etc. We all had to be very creative in this assignment especially when designing the logo and healthy food options(menu). Finally, I improved my overall character when taking on responsibilities and showing perseverance when a challenge arose. My communication has developed, when performing in front of parents, judges and teachers at the expo night and when talking to my group members throughout the planning process. My critical thinking has also improved when diving deep into our ideas, thinking of any issues that can be seen with our ideas, and then making decisions based off of research and our own opinions. I can now apply the skills i have developed over this task into other school projects or even my work. Being able to think critically and make decisions is a life skill that help in day to day situations. Some challenges occurred during the assignment, for example sometimes we would have different perspectives about something, for example we had a disagreement about the logo, and logo name. To overcome this, we communicated as a group and worked as a team to take groups different ideas and to combine them into one. At the time of this challenge, I was wondering how we would use all of our ideas into a presentation. Leading up to the presentation, I felt excited yet nervous to present in front of the judges and to answer the random questions at the end in a detailed manner. After completing the presentation I was very proud of our group and how we have come because I have never worked with Clara, Sophia and Sara before. Throughout this course, I learned a variety of new things, for example i knew how to research more efficiently. For instance when i would search something up on google, I would usually use the information given to me with the first link that appears first. However in this case, we found several different recourses and copied the link into the shared group document, with dot points of what the website is telling us. I understand the importance of planning, reliable teamwork, and sharing new ideas to one another. I feel that i have improved my self confidence, improved my ability to work with others and learned how to handle challenges in a responsible way.
