She was taught that her foot was ugly because her mom always told her it was, and when your taught something at a young age it usually sticks with you. Ada is also annoyed and dissapointed when she finds out that her foot will never be fixed and she will always stay the way she is always having her moms voice in her head saying your ugly, and rubbish, and no one will ever want you.

An idea I had about Flashback Four is that all of the flashback four, Julia, Luke, David and Isabel, are very curious, adventurous, brave, determined and confident. I feel they go out of harms way to do something.
Another idea of mine is, that Mrs. Z, will help everyone in the Flashback Four, I think this because, she is giving them an amazing them an amazing experience, and also, is giving them a chance to really see what happened in the past, and even, from their knowledge, maybe get them a better education. Isabelle, in particular, because her family, isn't doing too well financially. Lastly, the experience, will really help all of them to succeed more, and maybe make them amazing in history.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiy-rmm44bUAhUDRhQKHcUSC-QQjRwIBw&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.quotemaster.org%2FBravery&psig=AFQjCNFfV5VqoWEaWFj6O667QGv4IT9HYQ&ust=1495655018081750

One thing that I think motivates Y'tin is that he wants his elephants to be free from being in the captured village . This motivates Y'tin because he wants to make it so that the elephants can get the thing that is very desirable in this time period freedom. This motivation makes it so that it is easy for Y'tin to feel brave and think about the sacrifice he is making to the people of his village that he is risking their lives for an elephant
One lesson that Y'tin learns along his hard journey that even when it is hard to do the right thing you can never stop trying. Y'tin learns this when he is forced to do things for the north Vietnamese soldiers. He then realizes that they are making him do the wrong thing and that doing the right things is always what makes things peacful.

After a while she had to accept that but it stuck with her that she would be different her whole life. Her old mom always treated her badly because of her foot. She would not let her go outside or make friends, instead she had to wait on her mom. Now all those memories will trigger emotions that make her upset and sad.

I also think that Jamie wants to help Ada but some things he can’t do like fix her foot. Ada appreciates the help Jamie gives her, she would not be where she was now without him. When they were back in England without Jamie Ada wouldn’t of eaten because the mom never gave Ada food. She was grateful for Jamie and what he has done for her.

Ada's struggles with her foot a lot in the story. I think that it is a problem because she keeps on wanted to be able to be like a normal kid and wear two shoes on each foot, but she cant because of the I feel bad for her because Susan and Miss.Smith are afraid to let her get the surgery because it cost a lot of money. I also think that they do not want Ada to get the surgery because they are trying to teach her that it does not matter what you look like in the outside it is how you are on the inside but Ada is trying to tell then that she understands that it is just that her footy hurts almost every time that she moves. Before she got the crutches she could barley even walk so If I were her I would be grateful that I can now walk instead of crawl. One lesson that Ada learned is that you should except who you are and not judge your self by how you look. Ada's real Mam used to judge Ada on her foot and make her do things that she did not want to do. But now she is so much more grateful.

One of my ideas is, that the Flashback Four is very honest. They won't lie, even about their "time travel" ordeal. They are especially honest, when Abe Lincoln and his son visit the Flashback Four in prison. They were truthful about trying to get the shoot -- camera shot, not gun shot, and how they came from the future. They all told Lincoln, knowing that they could've gotten away with a lie, because he had no idea what they were talking about. That brings up a little issue about why they were in jail. Luke was trying to get the photo shot of Lincoln giving the Gettysburg address, and some officers came and took them away, even though they told the officers that, they were trying to get a photo shot. I think the Flashback Four learned that, honesty is the best policy. I think that it was important that they were truthful, one because if they had lied, they may have gotten judged, and even maybe, been in jail for a lot longer. Second of all, they really learned a lesson, that will make them more successful in life socially.

Another idea I have is, that they felt hopeless, when they were in prison. I feel like they felt hopeless, because they were being treated horribly, by the prison guard. This was a big obstacle, that could have stopped them from getting to the "future", and since they got back, potentially saving their life! Abe Lincoln saved their life. A lesson that I think they learned, is that, they always have to think about their actions, more deeply, especially around people that think something is really bad when it's not.

Learn about how honest Abe Lincoln was, just like the Flashback Four:

When The doctor told Ada that her Foot would never be healed, she felt defeated. I think hat she feels defeated now, because she was getting help, and people were not discriminating her for her foot. She was thought of as average for once, without being called out for her foot. She thought that if she could be "normal" Than her foot can to. But she wouldn't have thought the same way if she still lived with her mom. Her mom never thought of her as "normal" she thought of her as "ugly" and "different". I feel like if her mom sent her to the doctors, and they told her that her foot will always be "different" she would not feel so defeated. Why? Well, since her mom thought of her as nothing else but a cripple. But when she was excepted, she gave her hopes up. And that is what made her so down. I feel that if she can just know that she can be normal without having a perfect foot, then she would be okay with this. But with all the discrimination her mother has given her, she thinks that she is only different, but does not realize that not every one is perfect right away. So really, the lesson learned in this book is that no one is perfect.

One idea that I have is that Luke and David were very courageous and wouldn't give up to get the camera to work. This was a big struggle but they had motivation. Their motivation was that they promised Ms. Z they would have a picture of Abraham Lincoln giving the Gettysburg Address. If they didn't do this Ms. Z would be flabbergasted. This was a big issue for them that they had to overcome.
One issue is that the four of them don't fit in. This is a big issue/struggle. I mean Ms. Z did show them a list of slang words from the time period but that only helped a little bit. But word choice is also a crucial part of fitting in. I mean if a kid went into our school saying their feeling melancholy or flabbergasted we would not understand. I think some of the people they met got a little bit suspicious about them. This happened especially when Isabella hands Tad Lincoln (Abraham Lincolns son) a five dollar bill that had his dad on it. Of course at that time Abe Lincoln was not on the fie dollar bill.

In the story one of Luke and Sadie faced no problems or issues yet. But on the other hand, Sarah and Jesse are facing some big problems, because they are in the time of slavery. For example Sarah is facing a problem with trying to convince Jesse to run away, or sneak away. She wants to convince her brother to run away because she thinks he might get sold this scenario adds up because Jesse is little and young which makes him weak, so Mr. Bradley thinks it would be smart to sell him. One thing that motivated Jesse in the book was the idea of Ranger running away with him. Jesse wasn't convinced that running away instead of getting sold was what he wanted to do but he seemed to really be liking Ranger so if Ranger ran away with him, it would motivate him and show him that he should run away. This is what his older sister Sarah was thinking.https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=vedios+on+the+book+a+ranger+in+time+long+road+to+freedom&&view=detail&mid=29591278E8EFF5655DE629591278E8EFF5655DE6&FORM=VRDGAR

One internal struggle that Y'Tin has is that he doesn't recognize many people in the camp. In his mind that maybe means more than half of the village was killed, or maybe he's just dreaming. And if more people in his village are killed, the more that Y'Tin could potentially become enraged, and the harder it gets for him to contain that rage. That leads to an internal conflict of trying to contain that anger, and the anger trying to escape from Y'Tin. If he let's the rage escape he will create a physical conflict within Y'Tin's family and Y'Tin's friends. An idea I have about this conflict is that Y'Tin just wants everything to be fine, but in reality it's not. And Y'Tin accepts that, but whenever it happens directly to him or to other people in his tribe, he can't accept it. That is why I think this internal conflict and confusion is a big factor in Y'Tin's views on the war and his views on North Vietnam. But this anger towards the war and North Vietnam is not helping him. It's getting in the way of what he really needs to do, which is to survive.

One of the flashback four's issues is that they do not fit into the time period. Even though Miss.Z told them the slang of the time and helped with their clothes, they still stood out. One of the reasons they stood out is because of their language, and language and word choice is a key part to fitting in. If some kid came to our school and started using words like "Indubitably" or "Desultory", I wouldn't really know what he or she was talking about, and i would think that they were a little odd. Basically the same thing happened here with the flashback four.

A lesson that they all learned is to be honest all of the time, because when the officers came to take them away when they were taking the photo, they were honest and just said that they were trying to take one. They were also honest when Lincoln and his son came up to them and confronted them.

An idea I have about the character Sarah is that she is scared for Jesse. One thing I noticed is that they grew tobacco but they switched to wheat because less people were needed for that and maybe they did that so they can sell more people. Another idea is that Sarah's mom got a fever and didn't recover. She must be very sad and lonely. A third idea is that William didn't look Sarah in the eye when he said that Jesse would never be sold so he must be lying. One more idea is that Ranger could smell anythingfrom bad smells, good smells, tree smells, human smells. Another idea is that the guy in the hat was not good news. Now they really had to get Jesse to leave. An idea I have about Jesse is that he cares about the dog and he didn't want to leave anything behind. But they brought the dog and got in the boat.

It was a scary time for Sarah because she was very good friends. Ranger the dog was finding ways to help jesse not be sold to the south and to make Sarah feel better.
