Who is someone that you consider a hero?

I would consider my Coach, Boyd to be a hero in my life. Every since I started training with him freshmen year he has changed the way I train, the way I think, but most importantly he has taught me my sense of humbleness and gratitude. My coach has opened so many new doors for me that I wouldn't be able to open without the help of him. He has taught me that nothing will ever be handed to you, if you want something, go get it. He has taught me the value of a practice and how important it is to make sacrifices. Living over a hour away from St. Rita can be annoying at times, but I know that the practice I'm about to have is going to be worth the drive. He has taught me the importance of friendship and team comradery, seeing as he has given me the opportunity to be Rita's team manager and I would like to beleive I have created life long bonds with some of the boys on the team. I feel as though to the freshmen I am their "big sister", because they come to me for advice and they tell me about things in their life I wouldn't know if I was just a "team manager" to them. I cheerish these friendships I have made that he has made possible because he knows how important it is to have stable and healthy friendships. He expects the absolute most out of me and I train hard to not only make myself proud, but also make him proud.Without him in my life, I would not have the right mindset when it comes to training and competing. I Think everyone would benefit from knowing my coach because he has so many stories and he could help anyone get their head screwed back on straight. I honestly have never met someone who has cared so much about me and wants only the best for me not only in wrestling, but in life.

The most important thing in my life is wrestling. Out of all the things in my life, this has to be the one thing I love the most. There are so many things you can learn just from this one sport. Discipline, perseverance, gratitude, teamwork, and so much more. There's something about this sport that when you win a big match you get this feeling of reward that rushes through your body because you knowthat all that hard work and effort you put into practice every single day is actually paying off and you are continually getting better. Also, the team aspect that comes along with this sport is like no other. I have never been as close with someone as I am with my guys and my girls that I train with. They are truly the only ones that understand you because they understand what it takes to get to the top and they want to help get you there. My parents have definitely helped shape me into the person I am today but I do think that wrestling has played a huge part in that. I have completely dedicated myself to this sport because it is so important to me and honestly I don't know what I would do without it. I see myself as I get older competing in college and after that I plan on giving back and coaching. I want to share my love of this sport with other kids and help them reach the top.

I know I will be successful when I have a Junior National Fargo title, have made a world team, wrestling on OCU's women's college team, getting my college degree, coaching and giving back to the wrestling community, living in the heart of Chicago, supporting myself financially and adopting a child. Ideally I hope to accomplish all of these seeing as these are huge goals but I hope I will be able to achieve them. I have set myself up with the right tools to be successful too reach these goals. There are so many steps I have to do to reach every single one of my goals. For me to win a National Title I know I have to not only work super hard in practice, but put the extra work in afterwards. I also have to be good about my diet so I feel good during practice and so my weight stays good as well. If I do these things I will be able to accomplish my goal of being a national champion or a world team member. Reaching those goals will lead me to having a successful college career at OCU where I plan on wrestling with their women's program. With the good study habits and determination I have learned through school over the years, I hope that my schooling in college will be as successful as it has been in high school. With a college degree I find my future endless seeing as there will be multiple opportunities for me to get jobs, get a house, buy a car, start a family etc. I see the future as being super successful for me, I know I will have made it when I am stable and happy. :)

In my family we value hard work, determination, honestly, and gratitude. Ever since I was little my mom has treated me like an adult and without realizing it taught me all those things that my family values. It has also taught me to be extremely mature at a young age. My mom has always wanted me to be my own person. She let me dress myself at a really young age, she let me play the sports that I wanted and she let me do the clubs that I wanted as well. As far as learning goes my mom hopes that I will go to college and be even more successful then she is. My mom expects a lot out of me, but is understanding when things don't go my way. My family wants me to wrestle in college because they know how much it means to me, and when it comes to college, they want me to major in what I want to major in. I believe that my mom and I have similar goals for my future. Mostly though, she wants me to be successful and happy. My mom just wants the best for me and wants me to be doing what I love for the rest of my life.

Before my parents got divorced we had lots of traditions as a family. One that was probably my favorite was the 5 days of Christmas. This was when my dad would get me and my sister little gifts for 5 days leading up till Christmas eve. Usually they has something to do with our big gift, like little hints. If I do end up having kids when I am older. I do plan on keeping this tradition because it was one of my favorites as a kid because it got me super excited for Christmas. For a daily routine up until I was around 12 I think we would try and eat dinner as family every night, but as I got more serious with wrestling I was never really home at night. When I'm older with my family I'll try and eat dinner together every night because sometimes that's the only time you get to see everyone at once.

I have been friends with Alyssa since 1st or 2nd grade I think and I honestly see us being friends forever. Having and finding a friend like Alyssa is something special. I don´t think I have ever hung out with her and not laughed, we always have a good time. Alyssa expects a lot out of me, whether its school, sports, or just life in general, she wants the absolute best from me. Also, from her I have learned not to take life too seriously, and just go with the flow. Being friends with someone like Alyssa has made me a better person and I can not thank her enough for helping shape me into the person I am today.

What kinds of people do you identify with?

I identify myself with people that have goals in life and want to go be successful in the future. I need people in my life that are going to hold me accountable and make sure I am living up to my full potential. With all that said I also need friends that are super funny, goofy, trustworthy, dependable, caring, loving and just all around good people. I recently cut ties with some toxic friendships in my life that didn't meet the "criteria" above and it was definitely for the better. My friend group now is definitely a positive reflection of me seeing as a typical night for us is making cookies or eating pizza while watching movies and playing board games, which is like the exact opposite of what everyone in my grade does on the weekends. I don't belong to any clubs but I am part of the wrestling community, and it's a special one. This whole group sees determination, discipline and success as important. Anyone can join the wrestling community, but you have to climb the later to gain the type of respect the rest of us have. With my friend group we are always welcoming to others and if anyone wants to hang out with us we would be more then happy to let them in our group. Since my friend group is pretty new I don't really have any inside jokes with them but with the St. Rita guys I have so many inside jokes that would take forever to explain. Things like eating a dub and cup pong god (the i message game). Overall my life with my peers is a very positive, welcoming, and loving place to be apart .

In my life I have been impacted by so many different things. To name a few, I have been impacted by Chance donating one million dollars to Chicago public schools, hurricane Katrina, and Parkinson´s disease. Starting with Chance, him donating that much money to people in need is something I hope to do someday. Chance donated one million dollars to the cps art programs to show that you are able to reach your goals, if you are given the right tools. After college I want to open a gym in the inner- city to teach under privileged kids how to wrestling. I plan on raising money to get them gear, shoes, and even raise some money for their schooling. I hope to make an impact like Chance on these kids in the future. Hurricane Katrina effected my family because we have family that lives down in Louisiana. I was nervous and sad that my family could possibly lose their house or their barn. We sent out multiple care packages and stayed in contact with them daily so we could make sure they were okay. Lastly my life has been effected my Parkinson's. So many families are effected by this disease yearly and sadly my family was effected too. My grandma about 2 years before she passed away was diagnosed with parkinson´s. My entire family was effected. It was so sad and draining to watch my grandma go from this active, loving life person to someone who didn´t recognize my face when I would go and visit her. It was heartbreaking to see someone I love, not be the same person anymore. I know my grandma is looking down on me right now and I know she would be so incredibly proud of the person I am today.

Why is school so important?

Throughout my years of schooling, I have definitely learned a lot. I've learned so much over the past that my brain can not even contain all of it. From my teachers I have definitely learned a lot. Starting all the way back in 1st grade, I remember Mrs. Reid telling my mom she saw so much potential in me, and saw me going very far in life. When I look back on it I think about how amazing that is she saw all of that in my tiny 6 year old body. Throughout middle school I had teachers like Mr. Gable who also doubled as my wrestling coach and showed me I can do anything I put my mind to. Mrs. Rybski who was my choir director and taught me to always practice, as practice makes perfect. Mrs. Orals who taught me that learning is fun and there´s no reason to not want to learn new things. And lastly you! You have taught me you can still have fun when your learning, and how to make something that´s not a fun, fun to learn. I do believe that over the years my personality has changed as my friend groups have changed also. In middle school I definitely thought I was superior to everyone and that my class and I ruled the world. When I got to high school I definitely got hit with a reality check. Being involved in things like Peer Leadership has been a big help in the transition from middle school to high school and has for sure helped me open up and not be so shy and introverted. Over the years I have learned study habits, how to make goods friends, how to end bad relationships, how to properly communicate with others, how to try my hardest in every thing I do etc. I've learned these things through trail and error. I don't really remember any specific events but over time I have definitely developed into the person I am today by learning those things through school. I wish school would have spent more time teaching me how to correctly study or take notes, because when college comes around the professor isn't going to be holding our hands anymore like they do in St. Charles. Overall, I think the things I have learned would be way different if I grew up in Elgin or Oak Lawn, but I for sure have learned some valuable things over the 11 years I have been in school.

How has technology/media effected your life?

Technology has definitely effected me in both positive and negative ways. Starting with the negative side, technology has taken me away from valuable family and friend time. It's kinda sad that when a conversation dies down, instead of trying to talk about a different topic, we reach for our phones. I also feel that technology has made me lazy because its easier to use your phone then to try and clean your room, or the kitchen. On a more positive note, I'm able to use snap chat and Instagram to stay connected with all my friends I don't see everyday. I feel my relationships with my friends that I snapchat everyday are much stronger then the ones that I don't because I am able to talk to them on a daily basis. For example, I snapchat and Facetime my best friend Monica all the time while shes away at college. It's definitely not the same and as exclusive as it would be if we were with each other, but it's better then not talking for months on end. Also, from the movies I've watched over the years, I have definitely learned lessons for them. For example, from Remember the Titans I learned that it is important to respect one another, even if they are different from you. From Toy Story, I learned the importance of friendship, and from the Incredibles, I learned the importance of family. Without media in my life, I see myself not procrastinating as much, enjoying the outdoors more and probably knowing my family a little bit better then I do now.

The three people that I admire most in my life are Ellen, Kyle Snyder and Helen Maroulis. I admire Ellen because when she started she wasn't super confident in herself and you could see the nervousness in her, but if you look at her know she is thriving. She is doing what she loves and I admire that she is pursuing her dreams despite what others say to her or say about her. I also admire the fact that she gives back to so many in need and she does them in such cool and fun ways. I admire Kyle Snyder because he is a 3x world placer, 2x world champion, 2x NCAA national champion, 3x All American, YOUNGEST EVER Olympic gold medalist in wrestling history. Oh yeah, and hes only 22 years old. The amount of grit, determination and sacrifice this man has mad to this sport is something I wish I would be able to do. I envy the work ethic and the drive of Snyder, and I can only dream to be as successful as him. Lastly I admire Helen because she was the first ever U.S. Women's Freestyle Olympic gold medalist. I admire her because I know how much time, effort and dedication she had to give this sport to be as successful as she was. She stands out to me because on like some girl wrestlers, she cares about the sport and wants to learn and grow in it each and everyday. I aspire to have the same amount of determination and persistence that she has and uses in her training every day.
