Jane Addams was instrumental in the settlement house movement and pushed for governmental reforms and was the second woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. For this discussion thread, you will need to review a map that was published by Jane Addams and the Hull House residents which examines the national backgrounds of those west of the Hull House in Chicago. Be sure to respond to all four questions

Provide an explanation with your response.

2.What does it mean if there is an area of the map that does not have a color?

3. Do you see any patterns of settlement, in particular, do you see one nationality sticking close to another nationality? Provide an explanation with your response.
4. On the map, there is a national nationality listed as Bohemian. Do a quick internet research and identify where Bohemians immigrated from in the late 1800s.

1. According to the map, many nationalities like to stay together. Nationalities seem to be grouped together in certain areas of the Hull House. For example, the Italian immigrants seem to really be grouped towards the top right of the map.
2. I think the parts of the map with no color are parts that have no people in them.
3. Italians are the most closely grouped, but Russians and Bohemians seem to also no mind being mixed together.
4. They came from the Czech Republic.

1. The Bohemians and the Italians seem to stay around their own nationality. This was likely due to people wanting to be around others who share their culture and speak their language.
2. The lack of a color likely means the apartment was empty.
3. Italians and Bohemians seem to stay concentrated within their own groups. While most other nationalities like Swiss, Russian, and English Speaking, are spread out and living amongst each other.
4. The Bohemians were from what is now called the Czech Republic.
