The Moon takes 27.3 days to orbit Earth, but the lunar phase cycle (from new Moon to new Moon) is 29.5 days. The Moon spends the extra 2.2 days "catching up" because Earth travels about 45 million miles around the Sun during the time the Moon completes one orbit around Earth.

When it's the complete opposite then the Southern Hemisphere experiences summer and the Northern hemisphere experiences winter. The reason why I find this interesting is because gravity is the reason why we stay grounded on the Earth. Gravity keeps Earth in orbit, and keeps everything in conjunction with the Earth in order. As you can see in this picture, the skydivers are falling from the sky down to the Earth because of gravity.
